New axe for me

I just got this from a guy who bought it and then discovered he needed to make a new house payment. It's the last one to have the HAWGHYDE finish on the micarta handles. Steel is 5160 and is heat treated. It's the #3 model from Mineral Mountain Knifeworks. Ted makes a darn fine blade and I'd been wanting this exact blade for about a year now, so I had to buy it..

Now, that's really interesting. Have you used it?

What's the purpose of the point in the middle of the blade?

I've chopped a few things(railroad ties, water bottles, etc) with it and it swings really well and bites deep into the wood. It's really a tactical tomahawk and as such is designed to cut soft targets. The back cut on this thing is out of this world.

I'm not a thrower, but it doesn't seem well balanced for that. The only other 'hawk I have is the ATC VTAC which has a good reputation as a good thrower and the balance is totally different. This one is kinda neutral, while the ATC is top heavy.

I think I need to save up for a sheet of cpm 154cm or s30v and make a polished one a future project. Hollow ground... hmmm

Thanks, Ted, that explains it. I wasn't thinking of it as a de-animation device. Guess I'm not bloodthirsty enough.

Very cool Ted! I have a couple of Lagana hawks, and one shortened battle axe of hawk dimensions that I cobbled together, but nothing like this. Neat stuff!

Thanks for sharing.

Neat! That looks perfect for the Zombie Hunter photos. Any pictures of the other side?

I initially read that as "Lasagna hawks" and thought there was someone out there making a line of axes for use in the kitchen. Is it bad that this seemed plausible? :o

No pics of the other side. It's pretty symmetrical, so I so no reason to take them.

I can see it now "Real men cut lasagna with a Lasagna Hawk":D

Kewl 'Hawk no matter how you slice it.;) :o  And one that just automatically appeals to the warrior side of this ndn.:D

It means he's thinking...tough for Dan to do two things at once sometimes. It means it gave him ideas of his own of what to incorporate in his own work...which is a *good* thing for us!

I really like that too.

Last time I liked one of Ted's posts, it cost me $159.95 plus shipping. :p

I think there is a real market for a kitchen axe. And I guess a kitchen chopping block.
