Well,

so the UPSman brought me a paket.

But before writing to much, here´s a pic about theese knives...

Here they are...

The one is a Böker cattleman´s knife in dark brown jigged bone handles. It´s a real nailbreaker  I think, I´m gonna put i a couple of days in a drawer, for a better situation.
The next knife is a Böker Backlock Yellow Delrin.

I like them both... Well, they are from Böker Plus, so the cheaper version of the "usual" Bökers.
I hope you guys enjoy theese ones...

Kind regards
Andi

Hi, Andi.

Sometimes the "nailbreaker" situation comes up when the knife isn't perfectly clean or well polished before assembly.

The last couple of knives I received that were really too tight to be practical were saved by a few drops of light oil on the pivots/liners/blade area. I took the knife in the living room, wrapped the blade with a rag, and sat in front of the television and worked the blade back and forth for a thousand count. One of them (Queen soddie) had to have a second round of that treatment. It helped them a lot, and they went from almost impossible to open to just "stiff".

I will work the rest of the starch out of them as they are used. :D

Thank you Robert, for that information.

When you first use some oil, open and close it, there will come out a lot of black-oily-dirt. I´m gonna take it that way. But first, I´ll keep it opened a couple of days in a drawer. That will make "liner" on the back side of the knife (I don´t know the word) a little bit softer.

Kind regards

Well, that may be good news! When I have had one of those that gives off the oily sludge from working the knife, it was indeed the poor fit/finish/assembly resulting in the tough opening and grind from the friction of the surfaces. This probably means they left small burrs on the parts (who knows which ones) when assembling.

The good news is that vigorous opening and closing a couple of hundred times and then adding more oil until it starts to come out of the knife clean may just do the trick for you.

On one of my CASE knives, I found the culprit to be the backspring on the knife after taking it back to the knife store. Apparently it missed that last buff before assembly and it was grinding like crazy on the brass liners. I opened the blades half way, then carefully worked on the exposed parts of the spring with a piece of emery cloth on a square stick. Honestly, that didn't do much, but enough. Combining that with he television sessions made the knife work just fine.

Good luck!

Robert

Well...

@all

I opened the knife a some times today (about 20 or 30 times), after opening it again, there war a lot of vertical-bladeplay :barf: I was a "little" bit annoyed, so I rang up Böker in Solingen.
They told me to send back the knife, they will look at it. Perhaps they can replace they knife or giving me that money back.

That would be ok, but I´d like to have a knife which works. Bladeplay is an absolute No-go.

I´m not happy about that, but what to do?! I´m going to send it back, let´s see what they´ll say... :(

Kind regards
Andi
