New Böker Tech Tools

I'm interested. There has been some discussion of these for a few months on another forum, but I was not aware that they are now available in the Colonies.

I bought a City 1 model (just a single blade). It's 12c27 tempered to 59-60 high hollow ground. Great blade, razor sharp. HOWEVER, there are two significant design flaws IMHO. The pocket clip is not spring steel and was too tight to get on my jeans pocket. You can't loosen it by loosening the screws as the top screw is the tensioner for the blade pivot. To get the pocket clip loose enough, you get significant blade wobble. I tried to slightly bend the pocket clip, instantly (being not spring steel, I guess just cold stamped), it snapped off with only the least bit of lifting. I made another from some thin spring steel I had and that works ok. Just be aware that there are IMHO major design flaws as regards the pocket clip and how it is attached (screw that controls blade pivot tension). If you are willing to put up with those problems, get one - great steel blades. It could be that I just got a bad one with a overly tight pocket clip. Personally, I'm sticking with Victorinox SAKs after my experience with the City 1.

We've definitely been talking about them in various subfora here for a while, and I've owned a City 3 for months; as far as I know, these new additions are now available everywhere the City/Outdoor 1-4 are sold.

No idea whose colonies you're talking about, though. I live in the Netherlands, and the link I posted was for Böker's German site.

I carry an Outdoor 2, but I removed the pocket clip. It has pretty thoroughly replaced the Vic Tourist in my EDC rotation and has happily dealt with everything I've used it for so far. I much prefer the smooth G10 scales and adjustable pivots of the Tech Tool to the plastic covers and pinned construction of the SAK. Can't comment on the pocket clip issue, though.

I agree about the G10 handles; wish Vic did them. I don't see why anyone would need a pocket clip on the models with a zillion tools - just to thick for pocket carry IMHO. Now I'm a two knife guy; my Vic Deluxe Tinker in a belt pouch and the City 1 (with my fabricated pocket clip) clipped to my pants pocket. Now I don't have to dig deep into my pants to get my knife. Other than the pocket clip problem I encountered, the City 1 is a great single blade slippy.

The blade—a gorgeous drop-point, and a crazy good slicer—and the G10 scales are definitely the highlights for me, despite my usually being a CF guy. I also love how smooth it is compared to my Victorinox SAKs, most of which seem intent on taking a bite out of me when closing them. (I find that the Böker snaps open just as securely, it just distributes the tension better on closing.) Basically, it just feels better all around.

The 3 is the largest I think I could clip to my pocket, slightly smaller in diameter than your average CR123A pocket light, but I'm thinking of getting a 5 and possibly removing the blade layer so I can eliminate the Style PS from my EDC. (I carry at least one other dedicated knife with me anyway, so despite what I just said about how amazing the blade is, that combination could come in handy.)
