Well I have a new baby as of about 6:00 am today. This is about as close to having my own as I am going to get. Here is a pic at about 2 hours old.
A cute little bugger huh?

And for you jokers, I will make it clear that this is in no way geneticly related to me.:D

Ya, I just wanted to get the most obvious joke out of the way.:) The baby is a colt (boy) the dam is a quarter pony and the sire is a tovero paint. He was born very healthy is very playfull and has been eating and napping like he should.

This is our fourth horse but the first one born on our farm since we moved here 3 years ago. Allthough I grew up on a farm and have seen more than my share of births this was my wifes first baby.

Nothing like your first assist on a calving or foaling ( not that you really assist much- Mother Nature is pretty good at this by now).
Congratulations, and even if that colt is a boy....keep IG away from him.

This all reminds me of a memory from my very much younger days. We had several new calves on the dairy farm ( I helped out an elderly childless couple with their cows and horses). I had a friend who had never been on a farm come up with me from Norfolk. He was 16 and (like all 16 year olds in the 60's) was horny all the time. The old farmer could tell that my friend was clueless about cows ( and spent a lot of time looking at the cows rear ends). He told him that if he wanted to, he could pour some fresh milk on his wang, and let a calf lick it off. He said the calf would give him a great B!*w job. After we were done milking, my young friend stayed behind while we went to the milk shed. About ten minutes later we heard him yelling. It didn't do any permanent damage, thankfully. We laughed about that day until my old friends death about 20 years ago. On a similar note, nothing humbles a young lad more than watching a bull or stallion in the mating stall.

His name is Snowkicker, but Quart of Paint is a great idea! I will have to tell my wife that one.

Stacy that is quite the story! I have heard about that kind of thing but always prefered to consider it a joke. After having bottle fed many calves I can only imagine it would be a bad idea!

I thought Snowkicker was a good name for a early spring colt but today it snowed again:grumpy: Last week everything had dried up and the weather was great now after a few days of cold rain and now snow the farm is a swampy snowy mess. The colt is doing very good though and they are inside.
The mare is doing a great job.

I.G. I would let you pet the colt but only with adult supervision.:D
