New backspring?

Kind of a newbie question here. I have a GEC made knife that I love, but it’s got a couple things I’d like to see if a knife maker could iron out.

The pull is very soft, the backspring has a good pop to it however. Also when the blade is out and snapped in place, when I go to close the knife it almost ‘pops’ free if the open position. Such as if the blade over traveled and is binding on the backspring.

Are there any knifemakers among us that would be willing to take a look at it, and perhaps even fashion a new backspring for the knife?

Contact GEC. See if they want to inspect it.
A pull of around "5" (about as difficult as a 92-93MM SAK) is normal. Significantly less might be a warranty issue. However, I've heard some patterns had significantly heavier than a "5" pull when issued; a "8" or above, in some cases. From what I've heard, they won't replace those backsprings to get a lower/easier pull.

I've owned three GEC. An 85, which I still have, and a 61, and an 06, both of which I gifted to someone.
All three open and close smoothly, and have a pull of "5".
 
Agree, this is a soft pull but is very smooth and has good snap. What bothers me is the (presumable) over travel and subsequent sticking of the blade on the spring. A small issue, but I hope someone with more tools / ability than myself could sort it out. I would 100% try but it’s a very rare knife and I wouldn’t want to mess it up! :confused:
 
Do you have a pic of the knife's backstrap in the open position? Kinda sounds like a geometry problem with the back square and spring that GEC should fix...

Is it a new knife or did you get it on the secondary? If someone tightened the pivot to eliminate play that can sometimes make the walk and talk weak if over done... more of a mushy feeling in my experience.
 
Have you tried cleaning it? Sounds like there could be grit between the blade and spring.
 
SnackPack SnackPack sounds like you figured it out by cleaning it. a tiny bit of grit from the factory is a not-too-uncommon issue with slip joints.
