...a few prototypes that Ted Frizzell of Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works just came up with. I maintain his web site, so he sent me these to take pics of.

As you can see, all of these have a sharp back "swedge" for backhand cuts... and they are sharp! I'm going to keep one for myself and put it through some tests. I'll post pics and reviews after I get a chance to play!

Anyway, have a look and let me know what you think. Ted likes constructive feedback (and doesn't do the knife forums too much any more).

BTW, the black one has some sort of coating on the scales that Ted is calling "Hawg Hyde". It's rubber, sprayed on, and is nice and grippy yet comfortable to handle.

I like the ones with the slightly smaller beard and the pointed front blade . I wonder how they stick if you throw them ? The one with the slightly longer curved beard seems like it might hang up on something . That hog hide looks neat .

Would love to see those go into production, especially the Hawg Hyde configuration.

They look well done, but I have to wonder how you're going to sheathe them, especially with the large point on top. And as much as I like bearded designs for more mundane uses, for a combat weapon I think there is too high a risk of it becoming entangled and trapped. FWIW though, I think the sharpened back edge is interesting and more useful than a spike.

I like these designs a lot, except for the spikey one.

I don't think the sharp points will b much of an issue since they're relatively far removed from the sweet-spot of these hatchets

I've long been a fan of Ted's work, and the all black model is just what I'm looking for! What are the prices going to be?
