Hi All,

The new BCCI 120 has arrived:thumbup:. This is my first 120...very cool. Now that said I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with the QC on my handle:mad:.

This is the very first Lucite style handle that I have ever touched, handled, and looked at close-up....that said is it standard for this type of handle to have black buffing compound crap between the Lucite rings? Or was I just the lucky one who's knife went past the QC team while they were sleeping on the job!!!!????

How do I get that crap out of there without messing up the shinny new polished handle???

Hi JB,

My first thought is maybe an auto detail brush? One of those items used to remove wax from places that are hard to get to... the compound may be too deep. Or, maybe hot tap water, and the brush?

Soak it in hot soapy water and brush it out under running water.Stiff plastic bristle.Looks pretty cool to me.

Just send it to me. I'll get it cleaned up and back to ya,,,,,,shouldn't take more n a year or so. :D

That's too quick.....he doesn't do a good cleanup.

I can do it good and get it back to you in less than ten years!

Send it!

JB,
I keep a can of spray lysol sitting here on the desk. It does pretty good at some of the knife cleaning chores. Color of the can doesn't matter.

I use it most of all after oiling one up, to clean off what I always manage to get on the handles.

fwiw, spray lysol will remove ball point ink off of counter tops, and in some cases out of clothing.

And there is always WD40 that will clean it off. But you already know that..

Instead of water, which can get under the handle and be trapped, I would recommend a quick-drying glass cleaner. It evaporates very quickly and the reside is virtually non-existent! If you do use water, have a hair dryer handy to warm, not heat, things up to aid in the drying process, John. 409 works great for such as you describe but any non-amonia glass cleaner can be the answer; Best Fortunes with it!
Nice knife!

Dave

I think all the recommendations would work unless the black buffing compound crap is actually between the layers of lucite. In that case I would imagine it would be best to send it back and let them make it right.

It makes one wonder what the quality might be on the new and higher priced customs! :thumbdn::eek:

Good point about not using water... have used it on folders, you are right about a fixed blade.

I just got my anniversary 120 in the mail today and there is some crap in between the white layers of lucite. I'm pretty sure that a little solvent will take care of it. The knife looks great otherwise.

So, I just got my 120 today. Heard that it's the last of the Mohicans.
Is anyone planning to use their's or did ya get 'em just to impress chicks?

John and Five-0...did you guys get your's cleaned up? How?

Well brothers Goose & Mike,

I feel like we are the three Buckateer's of the west coast. "One for all and all for one" as we wave our dirty green handled short swords in the air.

Did you say clean it up!!! Hell I just dipped the whole green handle in some old black motor oil...now I have black crap between the green layers also;)

Lets just say that the only "chick" I listen to (my wife) stopped being impressed by big knives a long time ago.

As far as clean goes, I put it away and haven't even tried to clean up the black goop in between the strips of lucite yet.

A 20th Anniversary 120 arrived today. I got the second to last one available for my son Chris. A very nice knife. His first comment was how light the knife was compared to his other 120s, feels great in hand. We'd both like to see more 100 series knives with lucite handles.
