This just in from Gary Clinton - I asked him for an unusual wood for the handle, and he definitely delivered!

I really like the SFG on that Bear Bowie. By the way, just what is that "unusual wood"? Looks very good, especially with the brass hardware.
 
Sorry for the delayed response: "blue spalted maple" per Gary, although it really has a "blue-green" appearance in-person... Thanks,
