Got this today at a local knife shop. Not sure what year it was manufactured but the stag looked too nice to pass up.

Hi,

Pretty nice. How is the walk and talk on that one? Bear tends to have a spotty reputation around here for hit and miss quality. Though I think they are OK users.

I keep pulling for them though. I hope they can work up to a good level of quality. It's a hard road to travel for a new domestic maker.

That is one good lookin' knife. Year of manufacture on that one is 2000, if my memory serves. I had one of them, but gave it to a good friend. They make a good knife for not a lot of money.

Nice knife. When you get a good one it makes a great working knife. The stag is actually "stag bone". It is bone textured to look like stag.

Opens up nice and smooth on the main and spey blades. The sheepsfoot blade is almost impossible to open if you just trimmed your nails and even if you have a good nail to open it with it's still very stiff. the half stops aren't very prominent but they work. has a very strong back spring. The main and spey blades aren't very sharp but the sheeps foot is. So i suspect this was a user for a while, never got sharpened and was put back in the box and up for sale.

If it's not genuine stag then i over paid by a lot for it.

Very nice knife. A little oil on the sheepsfoot should loosen it up a bit. The stag is great.

Looks like real burnt stag to me. If it's bone done to look like stag, they probably spent so much time making it look real that stag would have been cheaper!

What is the closed length on it?

i believe it's 4" closed. I'll check when i get home from work.

I have a Bear that is kinda nice. It's a little lockback that has our company logo on it from my 10th anniversary. Very sharp, fit an finish gets a B. Locks up tight as a vault. It has never seen any serious use, keep it in my desk for opening envelopes and things. Nice to see others have them.

Wish they gave me that stockman instead:rolleyes:
