Thanks to this sub-forum, I ordered and received a BK7 from Amazon.com of all places. It looks to be a strong knife. I bought it mainly for camping and I think it's overkill but should work out well for my uses.

I don't have any issue with the handles. They're actually comfortable and fit my hand well. They don't seem that slippery. The sheath does suck pretty bad. The knife rattles around in the insert a bit. Is there any other options? Maybe a Kydex sheath?

One pleasant surprise was that it came with the BK13.

I haven't used it yet but it is an impressive knife.

Congratulations, Bobby. The BK-7 is a great knife for a first Becker. Remember to LokTite and tighten the bolts in the handle (they have a tendency to work loose if you don't).

Remember to take pics to share with us when you take it out to use it.

I love my BK7, I've put it through hell and it just keeps going.

It makes some of my students (a lot of kids) a little uneasy at first so I ordered a BK2 to use in class but out in the bush the BK7 is a fantastic tool.

Congrats! To fix up that rattle you might take the liner out, heat it up, smash it down to conform more to the shape of the blade, then put it back in there. Might require some sewing, but shouldn't be anything too hard. Or go the kydex route, which is never a bad route to go.

CONGRATS!!!! You just bought the "Universal Key to the Great Outdoors". That was my first Becker knife, and certainly not my last. That's a great knife, like you said overbuilt, but Ethan's motto for knives has always been, "OVERKILL, OVERKILL, OVERKILL". That knife will serve you well, but be sure and feed it often, 'cause they will bite the hand that doesn't feed them.

Once again, congrats, and post pics, hang around, sounds like you might want to be a Beckerhead someday.:D

Congrats on the bk7! It's a superb field blade and will serve you well. For kydex, go check out the stuff from chesnut ridge knife shop. Their plastic turns the bk7 into a whole new beast.

now now, the sheath is what it is. don't like it? make a new one, or find a vendor (several) that sells them. easy upgrade.

same with the handles. don't like? swap. easy. customize, make it yours.

now, select your next Becker :)

Thanks for that, I'll have to check into that myself.

I've ordered 2 sheaths from them and a couple of knives and have nothing but nice things to say. You can also order them with a teklok if so desired for a few dollars more. When you call them you get great customer service.

My son just stuffed some inner tube strips in his BK-7 sheath. No more rattle at a cost of $0.00. That's my kind of fix!

Thanks for the replies!

This was one of 2 knives I ordered recently. I also got a Cold Steel Recon Tanto. I usually don't need or use knives on a daily basis but I've always been fascinated with them since I was young. I've been doing more moto camping in the past few years and only had a pocket knife (Gerber AR 3.00) which was mostly ok. I picked up a SOG Trident assisted opening folder that replaced the Gerber but wanted a fixed blade so I got a Seal Pup Elite.

I haven't used the Seal Pup Elite yet but I wanted something bigger so I started looking. I was torn between the BK7 and the Recon Tanto. I found a great deal on the Recon Tanto so I ordered it but kept looking at the BK7. I have a couple of friends that have Kabar knives and they beat the crap outta them. I wasn't too crazy about the designs of the Kabar fighting knives but still looked into them. That's when I saw the BK7 and knew I had to have one. I was waiting for the Recon Tanto and looking hard at the BK7 so I just ordered one. What the hell, you only live once.

So here's a pic of the knives, all shiny and new. :)

Man, as your future leader, I order you to get some dirt time in with that Becker. Leaves them others at home, but take that BK7 on an adventure. It NEEDS it!!!!

Your picture just gets me thinking that Becker needs some videos of them cutting miles of free-hanging rope, and stabbing into sides of beef for no good reason. Come to think of it, I've also never seen a video of Ethan smashing a watermelon with his knife, or chop up a cardboard cut-out.

I must say that I always did like CS sheaths.

Bobby C - ya did good. I bought a Camillus Becker BK7 back in '06, and it's been one of my favorites since. I switched out the handle screws to slotted, so my SAK will work with them, and I keep matches in the cavities. Works like a charm.

I second this. Nice blades, but they need some abuse. I'm sure you will give them their fair share. Nice choice.

I have beaten the tar out of mine, and it's still going strong. It'll be going on a one day campout tomorrow, too, where it'll get some good use. These Beckers can take some serious hard use. Have fun with it.

thanks for the info, I was looking for some good kydex for my BK7 thats coming in the mail. The kydex and micarta upgrades cost about the same so I personally want the kydex first and will be happy with that probably.

I'm not familiar with custom kydex, is it anything like how the BK Necker clicks in it's sheath or will the BK7 just slide in nicely? I'm wondering what keeps it secure in the hard case?

Thanks!

Sir, yes sir!

:D

It's a balmy 32°F here so no camping for me. I'll have to wait until spring to put it to use but I find myself playing with them every once in a while. They're all gonna be used next year. I can't wait to try them out.

at 32 F, with your BK-07 (I agree with Moose, leave the others at home ) you can build a nice lean-to shelter, a good fire, a heat reflector, skin a squirrel or rabbit, and enjoy the stars.

If you plan on staying a while, with the BK-07 you could build a clothes line, walkway, fully enclosed log cabin, make an outhouse, make boards for a table, chairs, bed, and when you are done, build a plane to get out... all with your BK-07 :D :D
