I just ordered a new bk9, what have I gotten myself into? What can I expect from this blade? What other production blades is it similar in performance to? Why are some of you guys dedicated Beckerheads?

Where to begin... The 9 is awesome ... It is a jack of all trade blade. It can do just about everything. As for comparison to other larger blade knives i consider it the most well rounded. I have an esee junglas, tops anaconda tanto, ontario ranger rd 9 and a kabar heavy bowie. The tops anaconda batons better then anything, the esee chops like you wouldn't believe and the ontario and the kabar are tanks... The becker is like the frankenstien blade of all of these... It does everything. It might not be the best at every task but it is damn near the top!

Pretty much what he said ^

You will likely be presently surprised at how well it does everything. First you'll go out and chop some wood for the fun of it. But once that itch is scratched I suggest trying to make a feather stick or tent stake and be amazed at how well it can do that stuff too.

Thanks guys, I'll let y'all know what I think when she arrives. Wally's world online has good deals for a good number of blades, but not too many Beckers unfortunately. :-/

Well, you started with the big boy first, good plan! You're gonna need a BK16 and a BK14 or 11 next. You'll end up with them all though, don't kid yourself. Welcome aboard!

Nice choice of steel. Throw a log on the campfire and join us for the party.

You might want to put your furniture in a storage unit for a few weeks. When you get the 9, you'll have an uncontrollable urge to chop some stuff up.

That should work nicely. Murphy can dump in some raspberry Kool-Aid and be good to go.

You should see the studs in my unfinished basement already, the house might come down once the Bk9 touches down in my possession! ;)

Well, now that I've been welcomed, what do you guys think would be a good second Becker, say either an 11 or a 14... There's a $4 difference between the two. What would be your first choice????

I don't know yet, waiting on my first, a BK2, I'll let you know then, my guess though for the others here is that they make one heck of a knife, near indestructible from what I can tell, so there's the quality knife, there's the camaraderie of like minded people who are outdoor enthusiasts and share the need for a knife they can depend on.

There's nothing wrong with that, in fact it's the glue that binds this group together, that and their slightly skewed  sense of humor.

There are other knives out there, maybe even some as good as what they make at the Becker factory but they don't have the support group like these folks provide.

New here my self and I'll be looking for your posts

The opinions of this member are his own and don't necessarily reflect those of this group, these are just my observations and nothing more. :)

You'll Love your BK2 when it arrives! I have been lurking here as a guest for a long time, I finally registered as my parents got me a 2 for Christmas. My father understands my blade obsession but nobody else in my family does. I have used the 2 to clear away some of the fallen branches from the Ice storm we had. I also played around a bit at the same time. Not only is it substantial enough to baton through the thicker branches but after I decided to carve some tent pegs and feather sticks just to test the versatility of this blade. All tests past with flying colors and there was still a fair edge on the blade when I was done. I also really enjoy the stock grips they are extreamly comfortable to work with. I still have not decided what customizations I plan to do to it. Some people complain about weight on the belt but I used to carry a firearm for work so I don't notice it. I now EDC my 2 because I like having that comfort weight there and I know I can depend on this tool whenever I need it.

The ONLY and I mean ONLY thing that requires attention with the purchase is not the knife but the nylon strap that attaches your sheath to your belt. After wearing it on my hip for one day out of the box, the strap that holds the knife to the top of the nylon pulled off. I am currently waiting for a Tek Lok to replace this nylon strap. The sheath itself retains the knife extreamly well after you snap it completely into place.

My only other feelings about any other Becker tools that I have held; I get the same feeling when handling wrecking bars - I could use these tools to potentially disassemble the world and they would be left standing at the end.

Cheers,

Tim

Hey JT.....

Welcome, welcome.......Many thanks for purchasing your new Nine...... After you get it in hand and get a target what it is good for will become self evident....LOL.... Be sure to practice doing the little stuff as well as the funner stuff whacking away at the dreaded invasion of bush honey suckle say, or Just taking down a sapling or two......

Let us know how you do after a little "dirt time" with it and we all love pix..........

The Nine is one of the trilogy of my go to stable...... I back up the Nine with a BK11 ( always with me) and a Bk16.......
Obviously the Nine Takes care of the big stuff but usually lives in the pack, the 11 is hardly noticeable around my neck and will do everything that needs be done for little stuff..........The Sixteen (sweet, sweet Sixteen) has enough handle that if ya got a lot of crafty stuff to do it just makes life a hell of a lot easier........ I use an 11 virtually every day and am confident that I can do virtually anything I GOTTA do with it a SAK Rucksack and pair f good gloves and a club..... Best to have all three though makes life a bit more civilized.....

Thanks again.......

Ethan

Mr. Becker sir! I am honored! Thanks for your advice! The bk11 looks like it's on my list once I get enough scratch together and recover a bit financially from purchasing "The 9" (insert foreboding voice).
I own several large blades already that are in the same size as the bk9 and even some customs made by a friend. But from what I've seen and heard on here (as well as YouTube) the Becker series are in a class of their own; and hearing this enough I had to see for myself. :)
So... Thanks Again!

The future is bright! Like newly sharpened steel!

The king has landed!! My first impressions are going to warrant a separate thread!
But I owe Ethan a steak dinner (or bottle of "spirits") if I meet him for the superior fit and finish of this monster as well as the incredible attention to the design, ergos, blade geometry ect.!...
I love the feel of it in my hand, and all the photos and video I've seen don't do it justice! It reminds me of a wood "cleaver" by the width and thickness of it... I can't wait to take it to some stuff I have laying around the garage...
The one thing I will say is a bit of a miss (and a minor one at that!) is the roughness/thickness of the coating.
I will probably take some fine sand paper to the primary grind only just to aid in shearing and chopping, other than that ( and maybe some custom scales!!! :D it's perfect!!!
