This is a knife that I forged, finished and heat treated the blade on Friday. Got it all fitted up yesterday and just got epoxied this morning. The blade is saw steel IG had given me. I wanted to get it done to see if it was shear steel but it isn't. The fittings are from the anchor chain I had also gotten from IG. Since everything except for the Euro crown came from New Bedford thats the reason for the name. The blade is 3 1/4" with a total length of 7 3/4".

Nice knife there Ray. Very nice sweep from the blade, including the hamon, into the antler, keeping with the ridges. You guys done good at IG's digs!

"You can take the Boy out of the country but You cant take the country out of the Boy" Nice work Ray! It good to see you teaching those easterners how to make a skinner. :D

Are you sure that isn't a Portugee Skinner???? :D Looks Nice. The saw blade must be L6????

OK Bruce B. what are you trying to say???? :D :D

Bruce, I taught them everything I know and then some but that doesn't amount to much......

Roger, about the only way to tell if its shear steel is to make a knife out of the steel and etch it several time and look for a damascus like pattern. IG, as far as the steel goes I don't believe it to be L-6. The L-6 I have doesn't spark anything like the saw steel you had given me plus its got a pretty decent temperline with some alloy banding. The so called L-6 I bought from Admiral Steel awhile back doesn't show much of a temperline. A few years back Wayne Goddard had given me a bunch of saw steel. I had asked him if it was L-6 or 15N20. He said it was saw steel and I left it at that. As for me and most bladesmiths when saw steel is mentioned L-6 and 15N20 come to mind first but when it comes right down to it there were several other steels used.

Looking good Ray, nice overal effect, love the stag.

The L-6 that I got from Crucible has a very bold temper line, so much so that that you can see it with a fine 400 grit finish, and it realy stands out in the higher grits and espcialy with an acid dip. I guess not all L-6 is equil
