After losing my 2x72 grinder in a house fire 7 years ago I finally replaced it. This is a hobby for me so it wasn’t a priority and time just slipped by.

Anyway after doing a search I can see everyone has their own preferences that meet their needs.
So last me ask this as a two part question. What are absolutely stay away from brands or belt series?

Second what are your go to general purpose belts? In the past I was using some of the Gator belts. 80% of what I make are 8-12 blades choppers in basic carbon steels 1084, 5160. I’d like to try some new steels eventually , but like I said this is a hobby. I’ll sell a few here and there but it’s really to cover cost to fuel the hobby.

I’m starting back from scratch so I’ll be buying all relevant grits from hogging down stock to cork polishing. I have a vfd on a 1.5hp motor and will be using wheels and flat platens.

I know this is a pretty basic question and I did take the time to do some search’s current advice is never a bad thing though.

I use a lot of VSM Ceramic or Merrit Hogger 60 or 80 Grit belts and 120 grit VSM belts.

Lately I've been quite happy with Deerfos Bora7 ceramic belts. Inexpensive and good performance. Their zirconia belts sucked for me though.

Usually red label 36,60,120 ceramics and trizact gator belts from there.

That’s for the input. I think I’m going to try some of the Bora 7 based on your suggestions and looking at some other feedback. Lots of options out there for sure.
