New Benchmade Axis hard to disengage...solutions?

I just got a Ritter Grip mini and on hard opens with just the thumbstuds it is sticky to disengage. I have lubed it, 3 and 1 ed it....done everything but take it apart. If you gravity open it, it is VERY hard to disengage and makes a loud click pulling the axis down. I don't want to send it in because Knifeknut here sharpened it and the edge is amazing and the blade is perfectly centered. I just don't want it back different....aside from the lock.

I have only had it about 2 weeks in hand total as it was away for about a week and a half. Is this just normal break in? I don't recall this on my 557 mini grip but it did occur on my mini ritter M4...but I returned it because there were a lot of issues with it so I didn't have a lot of time with it for any break in.

Opinions/suggestions?

Thanks in advance.:)

Keep the lock face clean, do not lube and don't use 3 in 1 as its not very good for knives. Clean the knife with soap and very hot water, use BM blue lube to relube.

If you cut something like fruit and got the juices in the knife it could cause things to stick or it could still need to be broke in. Seemed fine when I had it though, I'd try cleaning first.

FYI, I used blue lube on it, that combined with your other lubes could be causing problems.

Wilkins grips are thicker than standard BM grips, thus there is less of the thumbstuds sticking out to get a purchase on. You may have compounded the issue by over-lubing, making the thumbstuds slippery. I keep my griptilians (and all my other folders, for that matter) as dry as possible, with just the smallest amount of Berryhill 1911 grease on the washers.

I wouldn't be afraid to take it apart if I were you. There are videos on youtube that show you how to do it, and you won't affect blade centering. Dry out all the excess lube, put a little on the washers and reassemble. Adjust the pivot screw until it is JUST tight enough so there's no play in the blade when open. It should be fine then.

Wilkins grips are awesome, and I hope you can get yours working right.

I blew everything out with compressed air very well. The blade action is great and it was like that before I sent it to to you. Like I said it only happens with harder openings. Maybe I am just noticing something normal because I am so used to the CRK now and haven't had a Grip for a while now.

Now by soap and water, do I need to do anything special as to not have anything rust? Do I need to take the knife apart? I don't want to screw it up.

Nope, soap water and a tooth brush usually work well. Blow out with air and lube, everything should be good after that.

Sometimes too much oil can be a problem too.

Cool, will be the next step if it doesn't break in. I still haven't carried it as I sent it to you right away and have not been to work in about 2 weeks anyway. So we'll see what happens.
