I recently bought a 710BKD2 model and it looks like they are using a new blade coating. My old one has a "BK1" logo and it feels kinda chalky. If you have a BM943 or a 520, the coating feels the same as their handles, kind of a weird rough chalky texture. The new 710's coating is smooth and shiny kind of like Emerson's black coating. It just says "D2" and there's no BK logo on this one. Anyone know if this is still the BK1 from before?

well, this gets my curiosity up. i really like BM's but their coating has always sukt BIG TIME. it wears off a blade faster than any of my other coated knives. hopefully, they took the time to figure it out and make the necessary changes.

They did start using a new coating, but it still sucks... need to get them onto the DLC bandwagon...

Tried to wash some junk off of my very first BK2 (new coating name), never dreamed a "scratchless" sponge would take the coating right off... I don't have any pics of that one, but this was my 2nd one after only about 2 weeks of carrying (very light use):

That's the old coating. The new one is shinier and doesn't have the BK logo underneath the steel name. And yeah it sucked. I opened a couple boxes and it looked like the blade had been to Iraq.

Is it? when i bought it, it said BK2... interesting..

Edit, double checked, apparently i am wrong - good to know... hopefully the new one is better
