New Benchmade owner, is this normal? (Probably a dumb question)

When I slowly open and close my Griptilian, I noticed that the AXIS lock spins slightly. Is this just to make it easier for the lock to roll along the blade tang, or is this abnormal?

I noticed this the other day. My guess would be either it is just like that by design, or to act in a similar way as a spinning stop pin. I'm sure someone more experienced will be here soon.

I've never noticed it. I just checked the two Mini Grips laying next to me, and I opened and closed each knife 6 or 7 times, and I'm not seeing any spinning

I've never noticed the Axis lock spinning either. Not that it doesn't...did a random check and aside from the normal back and forth cycling motion, none of mine do that. I wouldn't worry about it.

One of my mini-HK's does it -- the only way I know for sure is that the coated Axis bar has even wear around it on the black oxide coating (some Axis models have black oxide-coated hardware and liners, some do not).

As mentioned, it's likely a good thing in that it evenly distributes wear along the bar. That, and a little-known benefit, every time an Axis bar rotates, even just a little, a baby bird elsewhere in the world takes flight for the first time. True story.
