I have a BM Rant DPT (Drop Point Tactical), and love the thing! I havn't used it for much, but the knife is a steal for $40! The N690 steel sharpens up real nice, I put a 25 degree total edge on it, and it seems to hold up decent. Benchmade took a risk with manufacturing in Tiawan, but they did a real good job!
I love mine too michael. The knife is a steal at 40 bucks, you got that right! I will be carrying this as my hunting knife this deer season. I am already starting to prepare. and what better way than to go to NGK and get a killer Bowie for skinning the deer when i bring home the trophy buck back to the camp fire!!!! i am pleased with this purchase, but not as much as i am with my Manix. now that is a tank!
I would Wager that the Manix would do a better job of skinning a deer than would the Rant. A little harder to clean, but a better blade shape, and better edgeholding/geometry.

While there's no disputing that the Manix' blade is far stronger, the blade on the Rant is deeply hollow-ground to a paper-thin edge that slices a helluva lot better, and the blade shape provides a lot more belly, too. Choking up on the blade using the choil of the Manix might be handy for caping; but the full lower guard on the Rant provides more security when things get real slippery.
Seems to me the Manix was built more as a hard-use general purpose, while the Rant was designed more as a dedicated hunting/skinning/dressing knife.
