New Benchmades?

Just checked the Benchmade website...looks like they've redesigned the whole thing. But, what struck me most, is their new knives! Not only are they nice (especially the Rant DPT), but, they're very cheap as well (less than 60$). When are these knives gonna hit store shelves? They're on 'backorder' right now, and there's no associated press release for them.

I think the Rant fixed blades look nice; might have to pick up a couple of those. I like the 780 Osborne, too.

Ivan, they are cheap because they aren't made by Benchmade. They are made for Benchmade and I believe they are made in Taiwan. Take care.

Benchmade/PCC had knives produced at one time before. The examples I ws able to handle seemed to be well knives. I'm curious to see if the new models will follow suit. I suspect that they will be just as well made as the current offerings from Benchmade.

They are made by CRKT.

It seems to signal a major shift in the quality and cost of Benchmades. Imagine BMW started use it's name made by Isuzu's (actually Honda did this, but Honda isn't BMW). That's pretty much what is happening here. It may be a smart business move. But sounds like bad news for the knife knuts as has been said.

Imo if BM handles this correctly it will not effect their quality or reputation at all. They are merely offering a lower cost line for people on a budget. They still have their high quality current line and they are even introducing a limited edition/custom gold line. BTW if you think about it most of the so called high end car companies such as jaguar, rolls royce, ferrari, etc are owned by other car companies now anyways. The key is to keep your two market segments clearly defined

Steven, just so you know, CRKT doesn't make knives any more than Cold Steel, SOG and others. They design and market knives that are made by others. The knives are made for them by manufacturers in Taiwan and Italy. If your point is that some of those same manufacturers are doing work for Benchmade, then you could very well be right. Take care.

Yeah, these all seem to be cheaper, Taiwanese-made knives. I'll wait for reviews to come out before purchasing.

I would be interested in the opinions of anyone that gets one of the new Red Line. As far as I am concerned it isn't right to condemn Benchmade based on the fact that they are going offshore for manufacture and to cheaper materials to hit a certain price point. Praise or condemn them based on the quality and value of their products and their customer service.
