Made mine form an old belt. It works but it really sucks, I'm hoping to upgrade soon.

I don't think you're gonna be able to sew veg tanned leather with a fabric sewing machine.

I stitch all my stuff by hand.

I guess I can find leather at a Joanns or something. The plastic sheath isn't horrid, the rattling might get to me though.
