New BK14 arrived today, can't say I'm overjoyed. The handle is on the small side even for my hands. I had planned on carrying it as a neck knife but at least for me it seems a bit heavy for that.
So I'll send it off tomorrow or the next day to have a proper sheath made for it but I doubt it will get much use. I had intended for it to at least partially replace my EESE 3 but it doesn't look like that will be happening.

Put your dollars into some custom handles. I put a set of timber ones on mine made it much better. I have large hands. Such a great knife for a multitude of tasks.

Nice set up, who made the leather work?

What I've found is personally I prefer the 11 over the 14. One of the reasons is because the handle is a hair shorter I don't try gripping it the same way as a larger knife, which I find myself trying to do with the 14. With the small knives like these if I put the middle finger up next to the guard and run my forefinger down the blade, or use it to pinch against my thumb it's infinitely more comfortable to use.

Help me understand.

You bought a neck knife expecting it to be like an ESSE 3 instead of the IZULA? Try a set of grips on it like the ESSE 3 has and you should be happier.

I'll see what happens when I get a decent sheath for it. Haven't talked to Jim yet but I expect it will take a couple of weeks to get it.

Not exactly, when I bought it I was only looking at the blade size, the Izula is a bit smaller, the bk14 and eese3 are pretty close to the same. I should have paid more attention to the overall length as well.

I don't have big meaty hands but I do wear a large glove...the 14 has great size handle for me. I have several and I use them a lot, esp at work. I use a paracord wrap and added a false turkhead knot and a cobra weave on the end to catch my pinky on when I need to choke back...

I keepem real sharp, and using the knot as a pivit point, I can get a pretty good snap cut going with it when there's small limbs and such I gotta get through.

Looks like you should have gone with a Candiru with scales for neck carry. The candiru scales really thicken up the handle a lot.

Yes, the 14 is marketed as a necker, but most belt or pocket carry it.

On your next Becker buy, stop by here first and ask questions.
Good luck.

I am going to switch it to belt carry. Need to call the guy that makes all of my holsters and sheaths today and get it to him in the next day or so. He should be about finished with the sheath for my BK16

Good luck with your sheath guy, if you've worked with him in the past he should be familiar with your likes & dislikes. Don't give up on the 14 too quickly, it is my edc horizontal carry & it hasn't let me down. In the end, if you are not happy with it, you can always sell it or gift it with ease.

I've lost count of the number of holsters and sheaths he's made for me, but it's a lot. Never let me down yet. I'm not giving up on it but if it had a handle similar to the bk16 or the Spyderco Enuff Leaf I'd be happier.

funny enough, the handle length is the one thing that keeps me from buying the BK14/24. I have an Izula 2, and the handle on it is JUUUUUUUST large enough for me as a fixed blade. I find the Izula 2 to be a perfect minimalist fixed blade knife. I'd love a little more blade length sometimes for some tasks, which is what had me looking at the BK14, but once I realized it has the Izula length handle, rather than the Izula 2, i've moved on.

I've said it before, if kabar makes the BK11/14/24 blade on an Izula 2 handle, it would be flat out ideal. It would make a perfect EDC.

That extra 1/2 in would help a lot.

Yup. I actually have a hard time understanding why they don't either make a BK14 II with the azalea 2 handle. Not necessarily to replace the existing line, but even to run parallel.
