this blade is thick ! i think its actually a little too thick and heavy for its size . its a brute though . i cut through an old oil can , done a good bit of whaming it with a club through all kinds of wood and the edge was still useable. i was a little suprised at the chopping ability , it does pretty good for its blade length. i think im going to cut thumb grooves and thin the whole knife down eventually .im going to do some more testing first . EATHAN WHY IS THIS KNIFE SO THICK??!!!. LOL I LOVE IT ANYWAY!

While not my cup of tea, the BK2 was overbuilt with a purpose. The 'hell and back'-ness was meant to be a plus for soldiers and such, I believe.

Yeah, the BK2 is a beast! It is quite thick, but I think it at least has a high enough saber grind to remain a good all around use tank of a knife!

I agree with SP. The BK2 strikes me as purpose-built. Dan Busse manufactured a similar knife for Scrap Yard Knives called the Dumpster Mutt. It has a 5", sabre ground, SR77 blade that's 0.285" thick. He described it as "specifically designed for heavy military use and abuse." Another similarly-designed knife is the RAT Cutlery RC-5. According to the RAT Cutlery web site, it was designed by military SERE instructors as a "hard-use, downed pilot's survival knife". I believe either of those descriptions would apply quite aptly to the BK2.
