hi all,

Well, the addiction claims more of my hard-earned money. I came home from my two day jaunt to south texas to find a huge package with a beautiful bk9 tucked inside.

So, here's the question: what should I do with it?

--new sheath? if so, which?
--new handles? if so, which?
--strip it?

Looking forward to your suggestions/

Brett

Strip it, definitely. The coating will leave eventually, and the faster you strip it, the faster you can start on that natural patina.
If you want a new sheath, I'd recommend Azwelke, having had personal experience with his stuff. You don't need new handles necessarily, but... I'd recommend getting some Cocobolo ones from a forum member here.
Some have made some really nice ones.
All this info applies to any Beckers you may buy in the future! It's pretty much the cycle for all of mine, sans the Cocobolo.
Enjoy the 9!

This is my version of the King, Bocote scales and a sheath I made. Stripped and the thumb ramp removed.

1) Recommend Kydex sheath from Azwelke, they are of great quality and uses the thicker Kydex 0.9, but there are others that make great kydex sheaths as well.

2) If you like Micarta scales, Saintcutlery on Ebay makes some excellent Black and OD Linen Micarta handles.

Ive used both of these gentlemen for my Beckers 2 thru 11.

mmmkayyy....the wood handles might NOT be out for the bk9. where would one procure cocobolo handles?

Brett

If strip it first thing. I'm not fond of the thumb ramp, so id remove it next. After that, id get a good sheath.

Op, if leather isn't exactly your thing, you can always go with kydex, which is my preference. This is my 9 sheath, but it is kind of a kydex/leather hybrid.

Actually it is a dual carry design, Horizontal or vertical. I use my own tins but they are the same size as the larger Altoids tin.

I seriously wet my pants when I saw that. How does this sheath ride? horizontal? etc?

Can I assume that an altoids tin fits into the holder?

Brett

Use it some and find out where it falls short for you personally. I have a AZWelke kydex sheath and it's great. Other than that I stretched some innertube over the grivory handle and keep it sharp.

Strip it, blue it, substitute the handles for micarta, then some Skystorm leather love...

Well Im a sucker for his leather. Even only having one piece of him
