I have a Buck Scoutlite that was given to me by my father when I was about 12 years old. The knife has served well for 19 years, but I no longer carry it because the tip sticks out of the handle. It has also lost 1/4" to 3/8" of blade length and maybe 1/16 to 3/32 of width. Does Buck do replacements on such items? It is made with the old (to me) 425M steel. If replacement is available, are there options for the steel?

I would no thave thought that a knife that old would be repairable. Buck *I doubt* would have any spares for it.

My advice would be to retire it.. frame and mount it. Then buy yourself a EDC like a Cadet or similar.

I'd contact Joe Houser/Buck and ask them. It's the same blade as the model 112, so they could probably fix you up with a spiffy new 420HC blade as a repair.

IMO
if it has a lot of personal value, and it sounds as if it does...
i would seek a replacememt with good blade on ebay..
(as the blades have scout logo's on them )
and send both in to Buck, Buck has a history with Scouting,
and ask if the good blade can be used to fix it.
and if it is ismprtant you can ask for the old blade back..
in order to avoid the baned balde swap issue (vers repair)
i would NOT ask for the doner knife to be returned...
i only sujest this as it seems (based on the ware issue)
that the knife has personal and is a fav edc!
