Yep its true.

Camillus is doing a Production Talonite collaboration with Rob Simonich.

All details will be released at SHOT, along with the first "special" production run.

You won't be sorry. This will be an outstanding production knife. We have been field testing Talonite for almost 1 year now.
It is unsurpassed for small field knives.

We are very proud of this collaboration.
Rob is the trailblazer for this exciting material in the custom arena; Camillus will be the innovator in the production world.

We believe strongly that for performance, this will be the pinnacle.

Thanks.

See Y'all at SHOT!

This has been very exciting for me as well, Camillus has taken some bold steps with the CUDA line as well as in material developement. Them taking on Talonite as a blade material should show consumers that this is an up to date company with a bright future! When I got the distributorship for Talonite, I sent out many free samples of this expensive material to any manufacturer that wanted it with the only stipulation being that they got back to me on if they liked it or not. Only 3 were good enough to get back to me. They were REKAT, Spyderco, and Camillus. Thanks to these three companys!

Will Fennell, Jim Furgal, Phil Gibbs, and I am sure others behind the scenes that I havent met yet have all been great to work with.

Thank you Camillus for having the guts to grind this stuff!
smile.gif
And thanks Bald1 for getting me to make a knife out of Talonite!

You mean the blue and black one? I'm confused. I went to the site, didn't see a thing new.

Folks,

Well the "news" is out although I was hoping for the "press release" to be posted here by Will too. Looks like it'll be at the SHOT show from what's been said above although details are in the newest BLADE magazine. Regardless, there can be NO question of the impact and influence Will Fennell is having at Camillus. Absolutely fantastic Will
smile.gif
!!!

Spot on Rob! Been telling folks to keep an eye on Camillus... their CUDA line is expanding beyond anything I think folks expected. And yes, they're the first to offer Talonite in a production blade. I believe it is to be called the "Quest" and is a great collaboration between Camillus and Rob Simonich on his Cetan design. Unreal!!!! And that price point isn't bad at all for folks wanting to get into Talonite quickly with a great blade design
smile.gif
!

Rob, as always, you're a gentleman. Now if you hadn't been so willing and cooperative in agreeing to my proposals about Talonite, there never would have been the "Talonite Project", so let's put the credit where due. Tom Walz, You, I, Walt "Doc" Welch, ALL had a hand in helping establish Talonite as a viable blade material. Kit Carson, Trace Rinaldi.... others too, have had their roles. And now Will in moving things into the production arena.

(Now if Tom Walz would only correct his web page... 75% of those "quotes" are from my posts, and as Rob has indicated, the first Talonite knife was something he and I got together on.)

Will, wanna make a bet, say a case of our favorite brew, that the demand for the Quest exceeds your expectations? Let's talk numbers guy
smile.gif
!!!! <hehehehehe>

For my part....well for those really interested, I've penned an article about the "Talonite Saga" for Mike Turber's premiere issue of To The Point. Read more there
smile.gif
.

Look at the choices now available:

-- great custom knives in Talonite from Rob Simonich and a host of others
-- a great production collaboration from Camillus
-- Talonite bar stock available from Rob Simonich

I'd say things were looking up and a heck of a lot has happened in the last 16 months or so.

All the best guys! A GREAT New Year is in the offing for us knife nuts!

Thanks guys!!!!

PS Now all those folks who wondered at all my cryptic posts and tap dancing will understand. I've been privy to this deal from the beginning and sworn to secrecy. I've honored Will and Rob's trust. Been teased a bit about it too which has been great fun. Folks in this community are absolutely fantastic. And at the top of the heap are Rob and Will

Something I should mention here is that actually REKAT was the first manufacturer to use Talonite.....although on a very limited number of the Carnivores. I would also like to say "thanks" to Bob Taylor for diving in on the Talonite Carnivore project. It is a good story all by itself.

Dear Bald 1,

Thank you for the helpful comments.

A couple things come to mind.

1. The web page always needs work. We are constantly working on it. Research is a lot more fun than writing.

2. I was going to tease you and say we didn't use your name because you are a guy known primarily for your good looks. Everybody agrees that you really know knives but also that you are most famous for making it on your looks. I decided not to use this line of teasing because we really do appreciate what you have done for us. (I snuck it in here anyway.)

3. I should have mentioned it sooner but Rob and I have a surprise planned for you. I sent you an email. I didn't post it because it is an honest statement of how much we appreciate you and Walt Welch. Please feel free to share as little or as much of it as you wish.

4. As far as feeling sorry for yourself - About two years ago I had an idea to make a pocket knife out of a really great industrial alloy. Two years later, after lots of work and money, I still don't have a Talonite (R) knife. Rob is too far behind to even take an order from me and I can't find anyone who wants to make a little airline acceptable lockback folder for me.

Again thank you for all you have done. I may not have been very good at showing it but I definitely mean it.

Happy new year,

Tom

I think that a BladeForum member that lives in Las Vegas anyway should be able to go to the shot show and obtain one of these amazing objects, purely for study purposes.

Tom,

I fear my teasing may have been misinterpreted. When you read the article I've written for Mike Turber's new knife e-zine To The Point, I hope things will
be much clearer. I've sent you a copy to read. Let me know what you think.

I've had such a great time with great folks and the plus was to have fantastic blades made for my use.... because of what you've engineered at Carbide Processors. I sincerely appreciate it.

I've overwhelmed at the gesture you mention in your e-mail, alluded to above. I'm one who simply believes that when one finds something spectacular, you share. And to do so, I post my observations and feelings on the Internet. The risk is always my
credibility but I take great pains to make sure what I convey is truth and observable by others. Such has been the case with Talonite.

My teasing was just that.... you and Rob have covered a lot of territory in the last 16 months or so. I've had a role in part of that obviously for had I not engaged Rob successfully in trying Talonite, there would be no Wambli #1, no distributorship, no business affiliation between you two. I've no doubt that Talonite would have emerged elsewhere, but to see Rob involved has been another reward of what my hobby has brought me.

I really would like some mention on your web page as opposed to your quoting me as an anonymous "knife expert", if for no other reason than to give further credibility to my pontificating on behalf of Talonite. If my teasing above went beyond the limits of proper taste, you have my sincere apologies. Such was not my intent.

For the benefit of other forumites reading this exchange, Tom and Rob have conspired to present Walt "Doc" Welch and me with special serial numbered versions of the Camillus Quest. They had originally looked to do this with Rob's Signature Series, which was to be a semi-production effort, but with the venture with Camillus, the Signature Series was shelved. I am greatly honored by their generosity.

To me it just reaffirms what most of us already know. That our community is populated by special folks. The enjoyment of cutlery is usually its own reward, but when things like this happen...well it is overwhelming.

By the way, I don't know what kind of nonsense Rob has been feeding you about looks, but the fact is the last camera used to grab my mug broke <hehehehe>! So let's leave that issue where it belongs...I defer to our illustrious Vampire Gerbil for mug shots
smile.gif
!

Again, all the best to you and yours

Well it's about time! I hate having to hold my tongue for so long!!!

Congrats on announcing the partnership.

With Rob and Will working together, I have no doubt that it will result in the generation of fine quality knives.

Best of luck to you in this new endeavor.

Bob,

I was just a little embarrassed. Certainly not offended.

I was trying to tease you back. I am not sure how well teasing works in email. I think that maybe we ought to continue this discussion in the proper manner and circumstances. Say over a big steak and a couple cold beers. Two ideas come to mind. 1. I am trying to get away to meet Rob in Las Vegas for the sportsman's, show and 2. There is a really good restaurant in Clancy (honest).

Tom

P.S. I think you are correct that we could have introduced Talonite ® without you or Walt or Rob but it would have been a lot harder and not nearly as much fun. (People with open minds, who can and do actually accomplish things are very rare and a blessing when you get to work with them.)

I would like to say that any of my customers awaiting a Cetan in Talonite from me and dont want the long wait to feel free to get one of the Camillus produced Quest knives. I will NOT be hurt or dissapointed if you were to cancel your order with me!

Tom / Rob:

I'm still trying to get away to attend a show. Currently I'm trying to schedule leave for the Blade Show in Atlanta. then again, Rob's but a 10 hour drive....Mmmmmm

Ummm... OK, I have another question.... Will the Talonite® Cuda® still have that button on the side?

Rockspyder,
Thanks for the interest, but we have NO plans at this time for a TALONITE bladed CUDA Quick-Action folder. The Quick-Action utilizes a thick[.160"] blade, and that would mean a serious extra expensive TALONITE blade. That doesn't mean we might not have a DIFFERENT folder down the road......give me a little time
biggrin.gif

We will just have to see the response to a production TALONITE knife, before we invest in the developement of a new folder. BTW, icase folks haven't ventured over to the CAMILLUS forum, here is a pic of the prototype of the TALONITE CETAN/QUEST that we have been testing these last 9 months leading up to this announcement. This shot taken on a recent 'field testing exercise'[read that deer hunting trip].
