I just received my first cold steel knife, the recon 1 spear point plain edge. It's INCREDIBLE!!!!!! Definitely ordering more knives form cold steel. My recon 1 came razor sharp and oiled up, it had a little blade play but a quick tightening of the pivot and now it's solid as rocks. Haha I love it so much, great knife. Thanks cold steel and can't wait to get more knives from you.

I've had my recon 1 for only a few days now and it has up and down blade play, I haven't done any kind of abuse like batoning or stabbing metal or anything. There's no side to side play, I've clean and oiled every screw and part of the knife, also there's a wierd lump at the beginning of the grind closest to the handle. I don't know what's wrong with it but it just doesn't seem to be as tough and strong as others that baton trough wood and are still rock solid. The knife has never closed on me but the only thing I've been cutting is paper, phone book paper, and cardboard.
 
Blade play in a Recon I is VERY unusual. I would suggest sending it in to our customer services team (with a covering letter) at the address below:
