found this at a local flea market(kansas city area) today. the guy had several knives but the gal at the counter would not give me any info on him. i left my contact info hoping to find out who made this knife(im assuming the guy who had the booth as there were nnumerous knives and sheaths all hand made similar style)

Ditto, I've got a couple of them, I like them. He also makes a kind of Nessmuk skinner that makes a great kitchen slicer.

how's the heat treat on these knives? I've been lusting after a kabar bk2 for months now, but that Nessmuk Skinner in cherry wood looks pretty sweet! Both these blades are around 5", how would this compare to the general all around heft of a beater like the bk2? Good bush knife you think?

I would say on the soft side, bout the same thickness and treat as an Old Hickory butcher knife. Easy to sharpen and takes an absolute wicked sharp edge, dulls quicker than some of the modern wonder steels but is so easy to resharpen it doesn't bother me in the least. It doesn't dull so quickly as to be a bother, for instance, when I butcher a hog, which will dull the best steel, I take frequent breaks and give my knife a couple of licks which will keep it in fine form. As I said before, for the money they are very nice knives, including steel and fit and finish. Chris

thanks guys! it good to have a tribe you can count on for these sorta things.
heres the specs from jeffs writing about his knives
"High carbon steel blade (ANSI 1095) hardened to Rockwell 59 (HRC 58-60)
Blade is 5 ¼”long, 1” wide, and 3/32” (0.094”) thick
Full tang knife with flat ground durable blade edge
Camp knives - forged from 1095 high carbon steel "
so will give it some time to see how it works. maybe able to get back to the woods later this week for the day. and in southern mo for the wkend.
