I saw a preview of a new Blair Witch movie, apparently the main characters brother is trying to obtain information about what happened to the original characters twenty years ago. I saw the original and the sequel in the theater, the sequel was horrible, the original wasn't bad. I would've liked to have seen the monster/witch etc, maybe in this one. The biggest thing I took away from the movie was a fascination with the area, Burkittsville is a beautiful area.

I really liked Blair Witch myself, but like you said, no.2 wasn't very good. Any news on when it'll be released?

The Blair Witch was a horrible movie!! I fell asleep 4 times. It would have been more entertaining to have set the money I paid for THAT movie, on fire!!

It was for sure different. I liked it myself as it seemed very original and kind of intense. The real beauty of it all is I guess it was made on a $10,000 budget and drew something like 40 million. The follow up sucked.

This was the biggest part of the whole story to me too bt93. Though there have been some very good efforts put into making sequels lately so you never know :D

I will never watch another Blair Witch movie again. When the original first came out, I went to see it and got a terrible case of motion sickness from the shaky POV camerawork. I hadn't even been aware that one could get motion sickness just sitting in a theater watching a movie. The nausea lasted several more hours after the movie ended, after I got home. Plus, I didn't think the movie lived up to the hype of being scary.

The only other movie to have that effect on me was another 'found footage'-type horror film, Quarantine. Same basic result for me, only slightly milder than the first time. Still bad, though. I made up my mind right then never to watch another movie of that type again.

The only 'found footage' movie I've seen that did not sicken me for some reason was Cloverfield. I think that came out prior to Quarantine(?), leading me to believe that I could handle the genre. Maybe it didn't affect me because it was more 'cinematic' and not trying to pass itself off as 'real'(?). Cloverfield was also the only one of the movies that I actually enjoyed. Anyway, at this point, the 'found footage' genre has, for me, become old and run its course, even if I hadn't experienced any negative effects.

"Quarantine" was absolutely great, and much better than the awful Spanish made original that inspired it... I did not quite buy the instant reaction of the authorities, but it was an inevitable plot point... Quarantine 2: Terminal is not a "found footage" movie, and, if anything, was even better than the original, one of the very greatest zombie type films ever made imo, this despite extremely limited sets... It is great and meaningful on so many levels...

Blair Witch is one of the most important movies ever made. Just about the only movie I ever watched 3 times in theaters: It essentially started the whole "reality" style of storytelling/TV series, so the consequences were not that good, but hardly the original's fault...

1999... It was another time... Note how they set it in time in 93 or 94, deliberately I think so that the issue of civilian GPS use would be voided...

I heard of the motion sickness thing: It is serious stuff for those affected...

Never saw the original, nor any sequel, but did see "Cloverfield" and liked it enough to buy it. I'm prone to motion sickness, so may never see the original, but will pay attention to the reviews to see if this new one avoids the sickness inducing cinematography.

It was one of the worst movies of all time.

No, it most certainly was not.
It was one of the worst things humans have inflicted upon one another.
If any movie merited the death penalty for the directors, this would be it.

The original was pretty bad, some loudmouth dumb-butt kids acting up for two hours. Ugh, I don't want to pay money to see that.

I don't know which was worse, Blair Witch or Cloverfield...

For a video-diarrhea movie, I thought Diary of the Dead was OK.

Both ridiculously bad.

Movie abominations.

If you can stand one more "found footage" type movie, I'd recommend the movie Chronicle. It's not really all that shaky because the guy with the camera is actually trying to film and "chronicle" what happens, not just running around in hopes of catching a last memoir on film. Still occurs because of what they go through, but it's tastefully done.

I saw this movie while it was still in the theater. While standing in line at the box office I talked to another guy who said he was seeing it for the 11th time.

He went on and on about how great it was and how it was the best horror movie he'd ever seen.

His emphatic praise convinced me to go see it rather than Sixth Sense which was our original intention.

His image is still seared into my brain and I WILL smash his nose in with my shoe if I ever see him again. Moron. Not kick him mind you, I'll remove my footwear and bludgeon his nose flat with it.

Sooo....uhh....didnt care much for Blair Witch, huh....?:D

Saying BW is a good movie is like saying 'Planet Terror' didnt suck.

Interestingly, when I was standing in line to see it, I was overhearing one young guy who'd already seen it more than once telling others how it was the scariest movie he'd ever seen. He seemed in awe of the movie. This was back when it was first released in theaters and some people believed that the footage was real. I should have been smart enough to walk out when I first started feeling motion sickness, but no, I had to stay to the bitter end to see what all the hoopla was about.

I never felt creeped out by it at any point, only terribly bored. I will point out that, since I was a little kid back in the 1960s, I've been saturated with so many horror movies (first gleefully forced to watch them by my older brother) that even the 'scariest' horror movies simply don't scare me. But I can still appreciate the atmosphere of dread that good horror movies have. Blair Witch just felt empty to me, and it certainly wasn't worth the hours of motion sickness nausea I suffered afterwards. I felt like kicking the filmmakers in the you-know-where.

Planet Terror was a horrible movie, but one of the best horrible movies I've ever seen. Not as much fun as Big Trouble in Little China, but still fun.

I stopped being at all frightened by movies when I was about 15. The knowledge that it's just fake is enough that no "scary movies " can bother me. Let alone such a obviously fake one as Blair Witch.

Jill, Jim have you seen It Follows? I'm not sure I'd call it scary either, but it came closer than anything else ever has.

It's a really odd concept for a horror movie and manages to build an anxiety throughout the film. I remember feeling quite uncomfortable while watching it. Good movie.
