After playing around with my old Imperial Barlow knife last week, I decided that I needed a new Barlow as a user. So, after a bit of shopping around I ordered a Boker Barlow from Knifecenter.com.

It's one of Boker's "Grand Canyon" series, though for some reason it's not listed on Boker's website (or at least I can't find
it).

This is my first Boker knife and I'm very pleased with it. The blades are carbon steel and came decently sharp. I touched them up on my Sharpmaker and now the clip blade has a very acceptable edge. The pen blade needs a bit more work. Both blades have a positive half stop.

The bolster are made of nickel silver AFAIK and the scales of jigged bone. The bone scales offer a secure grip.

Fit and finish are excellent. You can just barely feel where the backsprings, liners, and scales come together.

This is a really nice example of the type if one is looking for a Barlow.

Thanks Rupestris. Pics should be fixed now. (Linking from Picasa doesn't seem to work, so I put them in my Photobucket account.)

Dave,

Funny that you should post this thread, because I was just going to do so when I saw yours. I just received this knife today as well. It is my first Boker, and I am really impressed as well with the fit and finish of this Barlow. It far surpasses some knives I have paid twice or three times as much for. The edge on both of my blades was excellent and I am not going to change it just yet. I love the look and feel of the "Grand canyon jigged bone" handles. I might even pick up another one of these.
I have tried lots of patterns, carry lots of different knives, but I keep going back to the Barlow pattern, just something about it that calls out to me. This one might be my favorite Barlow I have, and is probably my new edc. Enjoy yours! I know I will!

Thanks for the post. I have been looking at Barlows for the past few days and that is one that I will add to my list. Congrats on the new blade. :D

Nice one! I picked one up from AG Russell a few years back with the celluloid tortoise shell handles. Blades have taken on a nice patina. I had never really cared for the barlow design until I bought one. They are one of my favorite designs. They ride well in khakis, have a stout blade and a small blade for detail work, good steel and the shape of the handle fits nicely in the hand. Many of my other knives are too large or too small.

I rank my Boker Barlow in my top three favorite EDC (weekday) knives. Boker seems to do runs on the traditionals. It can be hard to fine the one you want. It also seems that many of the traditionals are now under their Magnum label (China) - not my thing.

Congrats on getting a nice one!

That is some knarly(in a good way!) looking bone! gotta be great grip.

Are these the usual barlow size of 3-3/8" to 3.5"?

G.

Ice Tiger ; yes. 3 3/8 is the standard Barlow size. There is a Grand Daddy Barlow that is 5" long as well, also the wired and occasional 3 7/8 sized barlow, but there are many guys more well educated who can give a more final answer, maybe they will chime in.

Looks good. The ones I saw at knifecenter had a stamped bolster.Did you polish out that stamping?

Looks great I like boker stuff... its hard to find a carbon barlow anymore....hows the walk and talk?? and the wobble??
