New Boker Plus models nicer than expected pretty much covers it. The AG Russell stag handled Rhino and regular Gnome I received earlier were assumed to be Taiwan sourced - but, alas, after seeing China on yesterday's arrival of a Chad Los Banos Subcom Titan (01BO582), I gave them a closer look - with the right readers on and magnifier in hand. China... that means the PRC. Heck, everything is made there now. Most importantly, the fit and finish is first rate - top drawer - I am impressed. 'China' did mean something of decidedly lower quality - no more.

So, what makes this worth $50 MSRP vs the regular $40/$42 Subcoms? Titanium sides - and 440C blade - and a wait - they aren't as readily available. Worth the aggravation. I removed the clip - with the Torxx driver included - and used a leftover boot shoe string to test it's neck knife ability - not bad! Now, where is that Paracord?? Did I mention it is tight in lockup - and came razor sharp? It's no Chris Reeves substitute, but it's a handy little knife - and another example of why I will now likely buy more PRC/China made Bokers. Yeah, first choice will always be Solingen...

The other item I just got was the 02BO280 Boker Plus Mosier. It came with a pretty spartan and tight Molle type Kydex sheath, which requires something else to make it carryable. It is also insanely tight - hard to use. I tried similar sheaths here, from Buck, Gerber, etc - nothing else fit. I am not fond of the 12C27 blade steel, either, even if it took an edge easily enough (About like Buck's 420HC.). It just seemed out of place in such a nicely done knife - especially since the SubCom Titan came with at least 440C. It also needed a few minutes on my Sharpmaker's white files to get hair raising sharp, which the others were out of thei boxes.

Now the good news... it's really a great knife! Quality construction all the way, from the sculpted two-tone Micarta to the choil and included ramp with thumb jimping. It is serialized, like the Gnome & Rhino. It should be great for a woods-bumming/bushcraft-lite knife, provided you find it a decent sheath! Yeah - decent sheath and better blade metal - then you'd have a 'real' Mosier - and it sure wouldn't be a $80 MSRP/$52 street price knife! Mine is a keeper.

I have one of Ti-coms in my watch pocket as I type, and I completely agree. Boker did a great job on these, the QC really is there. Great buy for the price asked. Recommend to everyone as well.
