Hi Guys,

This is the second hollow grind I've done. I've been making knives for 5 yrs now, and all of them except the last two, which includes this one, were flat ground. Who knew hollow grinding could be so much fun? This is just slightly shy of a 9" blade, with a 4.75" handle of bone. The furniture is wraught iron.

What do'ya think?

Dave

Thanks Guys,

It was kind of strange. One day I just started hollow grinding, and had no problem at all.Actually seemed easier than flat grinding.

David, great job!! Looks really classy. I'd like to see some close ups of the fittings if you have any.

David,

Again, you have a great eye for line and texture. I really like your work.
This piece is especially nice.

Thanks Xmodius,

And that someone will have it in there hands very soon. Really looking forward to hearing from him after he gets it.:)

oh, and Nathan, sorry I never got around to posting pics of the furniture. The guard, ferrule and buttplate are from the wisconsin woodchuck grain elevator, built in the 1880's, that they are presently tearing down. It's pretty rusty stuff when you first get it, but when cleaned up it really etch's well. I etched it in ferric cloride, polished it up on high grit belts, blued it, then buffed away all the bluing, leaving the bluing only in the deeper etch's. Then I applied high gloss tung oil (the kind containing varnish), promptly wiped it off and this left a nicely etched, nicely shined surface which is rust resistant.

I'm digging it David your sense of size is very compatible with the knives that I like. This one has a nice beefy handle to go along with a thick guard & blade.

I received this knife a couple of days ago.

Dave made it exactly to my specifications, and I couldn't be happier with it.

It is beautiful, perfectly balanced, solid and fast. I am really tempted to sharpen that long false edge too.

Now I must get a very nice sheath made for it.

Thanks, Dave!
