I like that VERY much Mike. Nice looking damascus and the light color bone looks like ivory in the picture. The handle shape looks like it would feel good in hand also.

Great looking Damascus Mike.

The handle is certainly different. Does the fit make for 2, or 3 fingers in front of the boss ?

Nice clean work ! I like it :)

Great looking damascus and really nice grinds. I like everything about this except that lower part of the handle. If the "bump" was less pronounced or even moved to after the index finger I think it would flow better. It's a bit of a distraction.

The damascus is beautiful. The guard, profiles/proportions, rear pommel and frame handle all seem to be superbly execution, however I fully agree with Stuart regarding the boss. I would even prefer this bowie without it as it seems out of place on this fine traditional design.

Some would question your use of camel bone on such a substantial piece, however it works for me. Is it actually camel bone or giraffe bone?

You are really progressing as a knifemaker.

Edit to add; imo a little Ken Hurst engraving would really complement this piece as the rear bolster screams "ENGRAVE ME". ;) :)

Kevin: camel bone is what i was told. i don't know that i would know one from the other.
the comments and suggestion from you guys helps a lot in my progression as a knifemaker.

Good looking piece Mike. As for the handle as long as it feels right it is right.

Bone either Camel or Giraffe is good bone to me

Just thought I might point out this handle shape isn't unheard of on antique bowies. It's strikingly similar to this one for instance:

Now my question is whether Paratus used one of these older bowies for inspiration, or if 2 knife makers working 150 years apart just happened to come up with the same solution for their design requirements. ;)

I didn't say unheard of, I said it seemed out of place, which is still my opinion. ;)

They do look similar but I have never seen that knife.
I have heard it said before that you can't make something that has not been made before.

we all have own opinion about what we like. I like the handle shape or I would not have made it.
Kevin don't care for it, but I didn't make it for Kevin. Just the same I like to hear his opinion

Well I'll be doggone. That just makes it even cooler, IMO. :D It's uncanny, how they both have the rounded butt/pommel, framed handles, and regarding the shape of the underside, how the first portion is relatively straight, with a concave curve on the rear part. Aside from the design of the guard, the main difference I can see is how the back (spine side) of the handle is curved on the antique as well. There must be something to the idea... Would love to see how that one feels in hand.

Thanks for the clarification, Kevin.

Very nice--I like the long, straight clip. The handle bump bothers my eye--perhaps holding it would change my mind. Well done!
