I just picked uo these 3 in a trade, and am stoked. They are great knives. I also picked up this little Ed Caffrey EB3 for daily use.

Enjoy, Jon

Wow, you did some serious trading to pull those beauties in, congrats!

The Reeves used to be mine, won an award I seem to remember ... great piece, superb engraving, silver fittings, love the Anders also. Congrats.

Great snags across the board. I'm particularly fond of the March of Dimes bowie - keep me in mind if you ever decide to part with it.

I am surprised that others have not at least commented that the J. Anders bowie is not terribly valuable, so I hope that you did not trade "too deep".

In other words, I hate to burst your bubble and hope you didn't get screwed on the deal.

Best Regards,

Both participants in the trade are experienced custom knife collectors and as I said above both participants are pleased. Who are we to question?

There are different levels of experience, Kevin. You don't have to question, I have done it for you, here.;)

I had been a dealer of knives for over 10 years and another dealer attempted to screw me by taking advantage of my ignorance on the production(it was two people that made the knife) of a particular knife from one of my favorite makers, and lying about it, straight faced.

Luckily, this was at the Knifemaker's Guild Show in Las Vegas, and a KG Board member instructed the dealer to undo the deal. I would have taken a $2,500 hit if that deal had stood. Was very pleased about the deal, until I found out from ANOTHER dealer what the knife was originally sold for, less than a year previously.

Now, I am not saying this situation is the same at all, just saying that sometimes we are more emotional than rational, and emotions are fragile, transient things subject to change very quickly.

Best Regards,

STeven, though I do not know you I appreciate your concern but in this case as Kevin pointed out the two of us know what we are doing. Speaking for myself I purchased my first Jimmy Lile in 1973, have had a colllection of hundreds of custom knives since I started. Though no expert I would like to think I know a good deal from a bad one.

That said in my opinion if you feel someone would benefit from your experience, especially as both a collector and dealer it might be a bit more tactful/sensitive to PM the member. Fortunately, in this case both of us are well aware of what we are doing. I for one absolultey appreciate advice and experience of others. I would never presume to know all there is to collecting and can only assume that you would feel the same way. Since joining the forums very recenlty I have asked and answered numerous questions and made many good new friends. There are experts, but no one knows it all.

While I doubt your intention to simply point out the lack of experience was mean spirited I know I would have preferred to hear from you privately. No one needs to be embarassed in public unnecessarily. If you think about it at the end of the day that might very well have been all your post accomplished. There was nothing helpful in your first post, just a critique if anything. Fortunately for me you can't hurt my feelings but your comments to Kevin and myself begged a response.

Thank you, Jon

... and sometimes people just like to see other people being happy!

Cheers

I have PM'd some Forum members that I did not personally know in the past, and it was counter productive. By doing it in public, no one can accuse me of things that were not meant, or of writing things that I did not write.

There are experts, but no one knows it all.
That is for sure.

Once again I am reminded why I have pulled back from blanket statements to people that I do not know. I only embarassed you if you did something foolish....I pointed out my misgivings concerning the Anders. As both you and the other party are experienced collectors, and are happy with your purchases, there is nothing further for me to offer, either publicly or privately, other than congratulations and good evening.

Looks like a nice score to me. Congrats Jon.

Actually, from the pictures, that Anders is my favorite. Admittedly, I have no idea what it is worth.

Peter

Jon nice trading you are on a roll I had seen all the knives but the Darren Reeves and it looks to be a very well constructed knife.

I appreciate everyone's positive comments. I am very pleased with all 3 knives and really am not concerned one bit about ROI. Marcel and I are both very happy, have traded before, and are working on more now. Again, that is certainly one of the positive aspects of these forums. For example I new the Anders sheath needed some attention before even receiving it. Upon receipt I decided to shelf the sheath and send it off to Paul Long for a new one. No surprises or dissappointments.

By the way anyone out there a salt water fisherman? Check these out, caught them Thursday. I do not know if anyone read the review in Blade for George Lambert's (www.titanknifetech.com) self sharpening (you are reading correctly)filet knives. I have 2 on order and plan to use them ASAP. I will post the results shortly thereafter.

Tight Lines, Jon

Nice trade! I like the Reeves best, but they are all very nice. Congrats on the Ono as well, some good eating!

It really was a good trade for us both. The interesting thing is how folks all have different preferences, favorites. They are all very nice knives indeed and I appreciate all the positive comments.

As much as I like customs knives I have to admit offshore fishing is tops in my book!! You ever make it this way look me up, maybe we can get some more Ono or Mahi. They are my 2 favorite's to fish for.
