Hi all,

I saw it mentioned on the forums about a new Kukri beign released from Brigade Quartermasters... does anyone have anymore details? ie. is it bigger or smaller - thicker stock?

I'm about to order the current one so want to save myself the pain of finding out a better one is in the works!

Thanks,

Don't think I've had a new catalog from them recently. My porous memory doesn't recall BQ having their own khukuris. Or maybe I'm confusing them with Atlanta Cutlery. But, I'm pretty sure it is AC that has the khukuris made in India for around $25.

Is this khukuri seemingly made by BQ? or is it some particular brand?

At the Blade Show a few months ago Ontario Knives had three new kukries on display for comment. It was my understanding that they intended to put one of these into production by the end of the year. These new kukri would be a new Brigade Quartermaster exclusive.

The prototypes were smaller than the existing Spec Plus Kukri, and Ontario was still trying to decide on the final shape.

Thanks n2s.

Sounds like they are going the Cold Steel route of making a "mini" version of an existing kukri.

Since new one is going to be smaller, I feel quite happy ordering the current "large" one!

Cheers,
Daniel.

I got the one that BQ sells and just love it, when we had a big storm a couple of mesqite limbs broke and I had to clear them out, I got out my Kukri and started chopping it had a good bite and could easyly sever 2" limbs with a flick of the wrist and threw out some good chips when working on the bigger pieces. The edge held up well through the whole deal with no deforemations or chipping and while it wasnt razor sharp it still had a good edge. My only real complaint was the handle tends to give you blisters if your stupid enough to chop alot without wearing gloves but there was no play between handle and blade like some other ontarios I've heard about. Oh one last thing if your gonna get one be sure and get the kydex sheath for it cause the one that come with it SUCKS!!!!!!!

You may want to look at some of the Himilayan Imports, or Gurka House, stuff before you buy. The price is in the ballpark and the quality is much better.

The price is in the ballpark, but make sure you compare the two blades carefully if you consider other khukuris. The BQM is fully hardened 1095 and fully flat ground and coated. HI or GH khukuris are convex saber ground out of springs (probably 5160 or 1095?), uncoated and with wood or horn handles, with accompanying kharda andchakma (sorry for spelling). The traditional and "western" offerings are quite different. I bet the BQM will outslice traditional khukuris, while the GH or JI khukuris would out chop the western ones, generally speaking.

I had an LTC khukuri and sold it. I would love a CS Ghurka Khukuri and a Brigade QM one as I think they'd make greta field tools: good choppers yet fully flat ground for good slicing. I also would love a WWII model khukuri. Those things look like real bush blades!

How well does the consealex sheath work on the BQM khukuri? I am very curious...

I'm expecting Crayola to be spot on in terms of slicing performance (BQ wins) versus all out chopping (my HI WWII winds) - they are very different kukris. I would love the Cold Steel version, but not at the current prices.

Just gotta wait for the order to come thru now!
Cheers,
Daniel.
