The temps have been in the 80s and 90s during the day but last night we had our first light frost which means that the first snow isn't too far away. With that in mind, I went to a small town across a mountain range from me to a small sporting goods store today that usually carries a fair selection of knives and came home with this Buck 55.

It's a neat little knife -- 3 3/8" long closed with a 2 3/8" long blade. Sort of a junior version of the Buck 110 and Buck 112 knives. The blade is very sharp out of the box.

Awesome little knives. I've always thought of them more as a mini-111. Great photos too.

Thanks. On my knife the blade is marked 055 while on other knives I've seen the blade marked 55. What's up with that?

Hi Ed,

I'm sure you will enjoy that 55. It's a nice little knife, thanks for the photo's.

Any ideas on why/when Buck used the 055 tang mark and the 55 tang mark on these knives?

Frost already? In the south end of the state it is still quite warm, though this is the coolest summer San Diego has had in years.

I only have two of them to check and the 2005 (Idaho date stamp) has 055 on it and the other is a Timberlake Stag/chipped flint blade that just has "Buck Custom USA" on it. I've never seen one with the "55" stamp.

Yep, frost already. I'm in the extreme Northeast corner of the state and I expect the snow to start flying around mid-September. It'll still be very warm in the daytime and the snow will melt by late afternoon but we'll get snow overnight.

I am so jonesing for a 55. But I can't find any stores in the DC area that have them?
