I received one of these and wanted to give my first impressions...very nice wet-fitted burgandy finished leather sheath. CPM154 w/a razor-sharp edge. Brass finger guard. Full Tang. Laminate checkered rosewood scales. Very nice fit/finish. Reminds me of the old Schrade PH2 series. I highly recommend it...Libbyhuck
 
Where did you get yours? Everyone I try said they didn't know 'when' they'd get them! I have had the 005GYS for months - I want the 'dress-up' version. Heck, I nearly bought one of last year's 005LEs!

Well, I walked into one of our farm/ranch supply stores here in Billings, MT and there sat two of them...$87.00ea...the clerk said they initially received 6 and within a few day had 2 left, I am sure they are sold out as that was a wk ago or so...I guess it is just my good fortune to live over the divide from Post Falls...and probably why I am 6-8 Buck knives behind in my wring-out pile...the Gen5 knife truly could become one of my favorites. I have a folding Alpha Rosewood ATS-34 that is a great hunting knife and this could possibly replace it this fall if I did not care about ruining the mint cond...

Well, I found one - it's on the way! It'll have to go some to be better than the 005GY charcoal/420HC version - I've enjoyed it quite a bit since it's arrival in Feb - and it still shaves. Still, I wanted the 005LE from last year - nearly got one earlier - almost bit on another one, but this new variant should be half or less the price. That checkering may have to go - I have never liked checkering on revolver grips, either. Your pix didn't make it here, libbyhuck. I guess it doesn't matter now - I'll see one by Monday or Tuesday!

I called 'KnifeWorks' yesterday AM re the 005RWS, as it was in their list of upcoming goodies from Buck. The kind lady checked - and found that it had just arrived. Yes, she could likely get it out - UPS - the same day (Yesterday - 5-15)... I'd probably see it Monday or Tuesday. Okay... I thought! The UPS guy was ringing my door by 2 PM - that's 27 hr after I ordered it! Of course, this AM found me surfing evil-bay - just to find it a few dollars cheaper, but more s/h. Looking at my bill from 'KnifeWorks', the knife was $2 less than they listed it anyway - so I got a deal - and the knife already!

Here it is... with the 005GY, which I still like. They may even share sheaths! The RW one is prettier - and at least as sharp. The checkering is muted - and, even though I wouldn't have ordered checkering, it is fine as is. Nicely finished - everything fits - the wet-molded leather sheath is tight, too. Really a nice knife. Now I am wondering... gluttony speaking... do I need last year's LE? How about the piano LE for this year? Naw, I think I am super happy.

What a shaver - and the 420HC bladed one still shaves, too - after several uses.

Looks like a nice pair of knives you got there!
I really like that Buck is using different sheaths for each different model of Gen 5. That is a very good idea! I love the design of that leather sheath as well. Different steels and price lines as well! I wish every model Buck made had all these choices! ;)
