I just came across this knife (at the llink below) at the local Walmart and thought it would make a pretty good every day carry. They only had a picture at Walmart since the only two they had were sold. With an ATS-34 blade and a price at around $55 - $60, I just might have to pick one up. Has anyone had a chance to handle one? One thing that intrigues me is the fact that it comes with an open assist mechanism that I'm not familiar with.

I have one and I would carry it more but for the 'oh my goodness' factor that you will get from other people. I work for a bank so this is a weekend only knife for me. Deployment is very fast. The safty lock works well. It has never popped open on me. The clip allows tip up carry, though I would love to get a reverse clip for the other side so I could carry on the left side. I am sinister by nature.
Get one. You will really like it.

Thanks for the comments Willie. Funny you should mention the tip up carry position. It should really make it convenient if you need to use the knife with only one hand available. I'm wondering why more knives aren't made with a tip up position for the clip.

Greetings all:

interesting to see your post, I picked one of these up at a gun show recently, mostly cause I liked its look, I like buck and it was a fast opener. I own a Kershaw assisted opener and like this one better. I would suggest you check th buck site (and ebay) and look at the "tempest." it is pretty much the same knife but bigger and with a cool 2 tone fade paint job. I just sent my "rush" to buck for sharpening, can't wait to get it back with a "scary sharp" blade.

I've had one of the 420HC models for several months now. It's to small for an EDC but I keep it in the console of my Jeep and use it wehern I need a one-handed blade in the car. I bought mine before I knew that an ATS-34 model was availabnle. I'd go for that one if you haven't already bought one.

The action and lock on mine are a little stiff for my taste. If locked, mine is hard to unlock before opening with the lock as small as it is. That may just be the one I have, though. Otherwise, I like it. My first serious folders were Bucks and I've always liked the brand and had one or two around as well as other brands.

Hi from Calgary!! I've had one of the 420HC ones for a while and mine also has a very stiff action. Lock is OK. It's basically a two hand close. I got mine last May when I was in Las Vegas for the North American 8 ball championship and had a bit of time to snoop around one of the knife stores there. I have so many folders that I EDC it only occaisionally. Mine was scary sharp out of the box  Overall construction is excellent IMHO. It opens very fast. It "feels" faster than my Kershaw Whirlwind and about the same speed as the Camillus Heat. I've found that you have to press/pull quite firmly to get it to open. Very handy size in it's own right.
