New Buck SAK

I don't think its going to go over too big. You can get a real Victorinox for around 20 bucks.

http://wwO.epinions.com/Wenger_Mini_Grip_Shop_ToolsIt seems to me Buck tried the multi business before, once with Wenger and then the long forgotten BuckTool. .........this one seems different again, kinda like Wenger's Multi.....it never went over too well either.
But you only dropped 30 bucks on it,let us know what you think when you get it.
Another product from China I see.

I am sure the knife is decent or Buck wouln't put their name on it. Let us know how you like it. It is different!

It does have a more tacticool appearance than the traditional SAK. I have had no quarrels with either of my Chinese Bucks yet, and they do come with the full warranty. However I think I'll stick with my Vic.

Sorry it took so long to post a reply but this is the first chance that I've had to play with it for any length of time. I went camping at the beach this weekend and had a chance to try it out.

I used it to cut some rope and fillet a couple of flounder. Overall the knife worked well. The serrations cut rope without any problems although not as well as my Delica. The Buck filleted the fish without effort but I had to be a little careful with the serrations. Once I finished the filleting I checked the edge and it would still shave. Not bad for the blade.

Next I tried the pliers. They slide out from the handle and lock into place. They are about the same size as SAK pliers and are spring loaded. The pliers didn't work so well. I used them to try to loosen a bolt that was holding clamp in place on a hose on a jeep. They really weren't big enough for the job and I couldn't get a very good grip. (Ended up using my V-Nox Spirit S.) Next I tried to cut some soft wire to tie a grill to a drum. The Buck cut the wire but wasn't very comfortable. All in all, the pliers didn't work well for me.

I also used the screwdrivers to assemble a small camp stove and a frame for a canopy. IMHO the drivers just don't come out far enough from the handle. (Sort of the Leatherman Charge/Surge issue.) They do lock in place and seem to be able to handle a lot of torque but the Spirit S and my SAK Explorer work better.

I tried the can opener on a soda can just to see how well it worked. It opened the can easily and I do like the fact that it locks.

One thing that would be a deal breaker for me is the weight. It feels almost as heavy as the Victorinox Spirit S and that has a wider range of tools. Given the choice I would carry the Spirit S.

I don't think Buck has a winner in this configuration. Lose the pliers and and leave the screwdrivers and they have a chance. So far Buck just hasn't got it quit right. Personally, I would like to see them make a version of the Soldier with a framelock since Victorinox won't do it. I believe that would sell.

Just looking at the picture makes me want one for my fishing tackle box - so no one will get me one for xmas.
