New Buck/Strider 880, Question?

I just picked up a tanto 880. What a beast! Anyway, I just noticed that
near the lanyard holes on both liners there are small "cracks" right off the
lanyard holes in the liners. I can't post pics but I will describe the position
of them the best I can. If the knife is placed upside down(on it's spine), blade facing away from you, looking at the left liner from the side the "crack" is at a perfect 6 o'clock position and about 1mm long. On the right liner looking from the side there is another "crack" at the 9 o'clock position
and a little shorter than the one on the left liner. Are these "cracks" some kind of stress relief for the liner? Being that there is one on each liner, I'm
assuming( hoping) that they are intentional? They are perfect at the 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions which leads me to believe they are meant to be there. Anybody got an 880 to compare? Thanks....

I have a 890 Tanto.
No cracks in my liner(s).

I have a 880 sp,i looked at mine and i see a cut or (crack) as you so call it inside the lanyard hole, same place as you describe it must be normal. I would have never noticed it if you would have said anything.you must have good eyes,i had to use a magnafine glass to see it.

So everybody thinks this is normal and nobody bothers to ask/tell Joe Houser or Phil D. about it.

Okie-dokie!!! :D

"I" ain't "everybody" el Clucko ;)
but ya know what, my bad. I thought it was the fixed blade.
I don't have a 880.
As Rosanna Danna Anna would say, "never mind".

I am pretty sure those are laser cutter starter slots that can be found on every hole. You see these same slots on Spydercos and any other product made by laser cutting tools also. As I understand it the holes are not drilled with a drill bit on those but instead cut out with a precise laser beam and apparently the laser for some reason or another always makes that slot cut to the side of where it will be lasing. I do not know for sure why. I saw these cuts on the knives I had been rebuilding for members years ago and finally got around to asking Sal Glesser about it and that was his reply to me. Hope that helps.

STR

I do have a 881 that has these marks on each liner running into the lanyard hole (same position on both sides).
So, I guess "I" am "everybody" afterall. And all those years on the short bus thinking I was special.

These marks look oakie dokie to me...
BTW, good a reason as any STR...thanks.
