Hi all, I posted this under GENERAL KNIFE FORUM and a gentleman said i would have better luck over here, so here it goes. i just purchased a Buck Strider Fixed Blade spear point, one of the last ones it town i think. bought it for $99 + tax for sale at a mall knife shop. That a good price for one of these?

I can remember reading stuff about the knife but i've been looking everywhere (forums searches, google, etc.) and cant find much about them other than they are made of 420HC steel and that they were a collaberation between Buck and Stider.

Mine came in a Buck box, it has the Strider Symbol with the wings and a "sword"?, SB5, BOS with the flames, and USA markings on it.

Im looking to find the following info please:

Have they been discontinued? and if so would it be prudent to keep as an investment blade, not a user?

How did the collaberation work between the two companies? did strider build it and its sold under Buck name or what?

Is the 420HC its made of tough enough for serious work it would be put to in the mountains? Along with that, i also wonder if the 420HC is equal to or less than the Sandvick 12C27 that my Geber LMF II is made from?

Are the handles aluminum or "G-10", if G-10, what exactly is that?

Were there any tourture test done by any of our forum members that i could read?

And Last, what are some opinions of the knife by any that have one?

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can give! -- Eric

Yep.

Discontinued. Use it or not? Guess it's up to you. I use mine (890TX) from time to time.
...How did the collaberation work between the two companies?
Apparently ok...for awhile at least.
...did strider build it and its sold under Buck name or what?
I "think" Buck made them under license agreement with Strider.

Dunno.

G-10. Glass cloth laminate impregnated and cured with a non-brominated epoxy resin.

I guess they're "ok" ;)

Thanks for your replies guys. That Link to the thread about the steels was a very interesting read... clear as mud it was... LOL

A personal note i have about the Buck Strider i have is this: when i was in my early 20's i bought my then dream knife, a Buckmaster, at the time i thought it was "THE" knife. After having it for a while i found things about it that just really didnt "work" for me so i sold it. Now that i have the Spearpoint Buck/Strider i feel that it is the Buckmaster perfected so to speak.

Any thoughts? Thanks --- Eric

The Buckmaster is what got me started collecting the Tactical style Bucks again. The Strider styles are way cool. I hope Buck continues a larger Tactical knives series.
