Woke up to a pretty cool email...and then went straight to the Benchmade website and low and behold, there was a new "coming soon" product listing! This looks really cool and will probably have me onboard!

Specs as per the website:
-3V blade(!)
-Black grivory handle
-3.38" Tanto blade
-0.09" Blade thickness
-8.07" Open length
-4.71" Closed length
-2.05 ounces
-Mini deep carry clip

Why the tanto?! I'll be passing on this unfortunately.

Speaking of, I haven't bought a knife with a tanto blade in good long while, but this is trying it's best to be my first. Not that I dislike them, but I guess I've just naturally moved away from them.

As far as tantos go, this looks good to me and looks better than many I've seen recently; the swedge is a nice touch too!

What's the deal with the big lanyard hole thing or whatever sticking out the back?

smells like a $149 piece... so no thanks

With the 3V and coating... I think $150 is being optimistic honestly.

I'm a little confused as to why they went with a tanto blade. I would have loved to see a mini Bugout with a blade closer to 3" personally.

This came up in GKD and this was my response:

I admit, this is a head scratcher to me. On paper, it all seems interesting. But the sum of the parts doesn't really add up, in my opinion. A tanto in 3V attached to Grivory scales with an aluminum pommel..? I feel like it's selling the 3V a bit short. The performance you'll get from that steel won't be remotely shown in that format, I feel. Additionally, what is the point of the aluminum pommel? Strike it on anything and it'll deform. I don't get it. And this is coming from someone who owns a 535 Bugout. I dunno, I guess I'll have see some reviews to see what others think.

Damnit! Hopefully the cf scales I just had made for the s30v bugout I just bought will fit on this version.

3v? I’m all over that.

Benchmade Benchmade any idea if cf scales that fit the s30v bugout will fit on the bailout?

Maybe I can do a blade stop if all else fails.

I'd say that they likely won't, I haven't checked the Bugout handle size, but imagine the slightly larger blade means handle scales with larger dimensions.

I like it a lot. Normally not a huge fan of tantos but this works. And it's a bit bigger than the bugout.

Grivory is what was on the freek right?

Should be the same scale material as the Bugout, and I'm pretty sure that's a different material than what's used on the Freek.

Looks like depending on how much I love the custom cf bugout will determine whether or not I get one. In all likelyhood I will because 3.38 is right in my ideal blade size territory of around 3.25-3.3 inch blade.

But I’ll need to get cf scales for the bailout too.

I love my Bugout, but I ended up swapping the scales for Ti ones, and I love it even more now! I'll probably swap the scales on this guy too if I end up buying it just to get the most out of the steel/platform.

I love my bugout but this knife doesn’t make any sense to me. Why does a 2 ounce thin folding knife need a pommel? And an aluminum pommel? Why give it such a mega steel with such thin plastic scales? And the tanto grind? In my mind this knife has an identity crisis.

No, these handles and liners are completely different.

Yes the Freek utilizes Grivory base with a Versaflex overmold.

I've sworn off Benchmade after their gun fiasco.... but, I'll admit it, this knife looks fantastic.

I pre-ordered the Bugout and thought it was a fantastic knife, this one looks even better. But I'll stick to my guns and give it a pass.
