Left blade is new Ivan's bulat - on the right old persian blades (bulat or wootz or damascus steel)

This is how he tested it

Scratching glass
Whittiong saw
chopping nail
Than it was put on anvil and hit by steel square slightly and then harder and harder.
Then battoning nail.
Then bending until it was broken (Ivan sad that angle was bigger - he just did not manage well to bend it with one hand and make picture with another.
Last he sharpen tip of the broken blade and try to nail it into the anvit - no cracks.

According to Ivan came up with new technology, which he does not disclosing so far.

Thanks, Vassili.

That ia interesting, it would be informative if he ground two similar blades out of ATS-34 and 1095 (or similar) to benchmark the performance of his steel against.

Common CLif he is in Russia! He lives in small town in Tver region. This steel is not wide awailable there. But I probably should send him some blanks to try - good idea! However I don't know will be able to do fair HT for them - like crio etc. I'll talk to him about this.

Thanks, Vassili.

I can send him a couple of knives he can use for benchmarks if he wants, I just need his address.

Vassili, do you know if Ivan is making his blades available commercially yet? The last time I asked you this you did not know, so I figured I would ask again. Also, do you know if he plans to make complete knives at some point in the future?

2 Cliff and Keith.

I will forward this to him right away.
However you may contact him yourself - kirpich20@rambler.ru

For knives - in Russia knives which are considered as a weapon are banned. There are some rules like size, guard, thickness etc. But let me ask Ivan.

Thanks, Vassili.

2 Keith,

OK! Ivan already have someone in US who can make knife for you from his blade! Cool, I did not know this till now. Please, e-mail Ivan and he'll give you whom to contact.

2 Cliff

I'll send you his address by e-mail.

Thanks, Vassili.

Well, I am not selling them. Please, e-mail Ivan.

Problem is how to get blades in here. I have them only because my relatives visiting me time to time and brings them in here. But I don't know reliable channel, so far. UPS, Fedex etc in Russia does not accept knives as well as blade blanks.

May be someone know how to do this?

Thanks, Vassili.
