Alright guys, my birthday just rolled around so I have the extra cash to buy a new fixed blade camp knife. I have it narrowed down to 2 different knives. The first option is the standard Kabar and the second is the SOG seal pup. So the question is which one should I get? I dont want the canstant BK7 answers. THESE are what I've narrowed it down to.

Either one is a fine choice. I'm a little more partial to the F/U myself, having more belt time with them....

Never could cotton to the grip on the SOG. :D

The Ka-Bar is 1095 carbon steel and the SOG is AUS8 stainless steel.

1095 is tougher and also easier to sharpen, however it can rust if left wet.

Personally I'd go with the Ka-Bar because they have been time-tested and proven to be reliable.

Get the Ka-Bar D2 Extreme Fighting knife - looks awesome I think I might pick one up eventually.

I wouldn't want either one as a camp knife. There's so much out there that's so much better for the same price and easily available.

Kabar 1217 F/U Knife = Made in America

SOG = Made in China

Plus, I like the heritage and legacy that goes with the Marine Fighting Knife.

Kabar. I tried a Seal Pup and the handles did not fit my hand. Blade design was great but overall uncomfortable and I am not impressed with the steel. Besides supporting the U.S. economy is the way to go.

I support the Kabar. It is just a cooler knife. The handle is comfortable. The steel is tough. For the same price you are getting a USA made blade as well.

I prefer a smaller blade, with a Scandi Grind. But if I was choosing I would choose the SOG Seal Pup.

I don't own a Becker but I would vote for the BK7 myself. Out of the 2 that you mentioned I would select the Kabar strictly because of its 1095 steel.

Id also go with the Kabar, and I know you said just those two knives, but if you think the standard kabar is to big they also now offer a smaller scaled down version.
