I recently started a thread called "Favorite Bushcraft Blades", and there was a lot of feedback from you guys. I got a lot of opinions, and there seemed to be a pattern with a bunch of you that I have learned to trust. I am fairly new to the knife game, I have been a gun guy for a long time though. I have been deep into custom 1911's, custom Browning Hi Powers, and custom sniper rifles. So I have high end taste, and there arent much productions that really do it for me.
I jumped head first when I started into knives. I really missed camping and the general out door, and needed a good blade to get me started. I was told to either go for Fehrman or Busse Combat. I bought both, and I still have two Fehrman's. I bought or traded for over 25 Busse knives in a three month time span. I am not saying anything negative about Busse Combat, I think they make a good blade, with great steel, and great warranty. None of them fit me well though. So I sold or traded them all. I wish I could have a few of the straight handled models at old factory prices, they are the only ones that fit me well.
I then started looking at the custom world of knives. Some have come and gone. Here is a newer batch that I bought or traded for, and these are the ones that I think are going to be keepers. I found out I really have no need for real thick blades, and if I am going to beat a large blade hard, I would rather it be a $30 machete over a $600 blade. These are what I feel in my limited bushcrafters expierance will fit my needs. I have more then I need, but I like them all and hope to be able to rotate as time moves on.
I will be going on a camping trip in a few weeks, im hoping to bring them all out and do a nice review. I will be care camping for the most part, so I dont need to worry about bringing so many. The only steel im somewhat worried about is the 01 tool steel, its pretty moist out here right now. I am also not used to convexed edges, as well as my one and only scandi grind blade.
Sorry for my quick and crappy pictures. Here are three Laconico's, two NWA's, two RAT's, one Koster, and a Ontario with mods from my buddy. He pretty much does the same thing Brian Andrews does to his, but non scandi area near the base.
