I finally got around to ordering the ferro rod blank from Going Gear for my antler crown fire steel. Now I guess I need to make a leather shoulder bag for a possibles pouch to carry it, my antler bearing, and a few other things in...after I talk Ryan out of a little of his aerospace grade epoxy to mount the blank with. I think with the antler crown it will go well with either the Bushfinger of the Recluse when I am in a Bushcraft frame of mind :)

That came out nice. And I am jealous of that Bushfinger, gotta get me one some day  Love the natural/black Micarta combo, too slick!

Thanks man, I'm thinking about using some tines and another small crown or two and making some more fire-steels for props in photos...may even sell a few along the way if there is any interest in them.

And yes the Bushfinger is a really sweet knife, I love how the colors go so well together, and I really love how Andy did the bolster on it. It being the first one just makes it that much more special to me :)

Glad you got your GNG firsteel. I ordered 20 firesteels from them 2 days before I left for Kali. I've had my Badger model, I want the Moose Model, obviously. Most of this last order was one for Lady, 2 smaller ones for my girls, and a bunch of little ones to give away at my survivalist gathering here in a couple of weeks. Misch is some cool stuff. Moose

Saweet!!! It goes great with that knife. Speaking of the knife the handle looks darker now.

Dirt, sweat, and oils from Mist's paws, I suspect. I have really acidic hands, I can rust stainless, no joke. My Kabar handles are BLACK within 2 weeks. Moose

Thanks guys. Yes the handle is a little darker now but not as dark as that picture makes it seem. If you look in the upper right you can see that it was really bright out when I snapped that pic and even though the objects are in my shadow when editing the pic I darkened it a little to remove some reflected light so the detail on the antler would show a little better.

I've been admiring that knife in your photo spreads for a while now. Like everyone else, I too love that particular combo of colour, material and form... especially all dirtied up and used like yours is.

Question about the bolster: is that a unique one-off just for your knife, or is it standard on all Bushfingers? Man, every bit of that knife is hot! Congratulations!

Thanks man, I admire this knife every time I use it. I really do love everything about it too.

Can't say as to whether or not it will be standard on all Bushfingers but it is not a one off because he did a Hiking Buddy the same way but with oak instead of natural micarta...but it is not standard on all Hiking Buddies.

I would be interested in the firesteels if the price was good. And I ordered a Bushfinger just like yours...too cool. I should just bite the bullet and get a matching Hbuddy.

If made with the same size blank as this one I'm thinking somewhere around $25.00 maybe less but not exactly sure yet...I have to play with it some and make a few.

I think you'll like the Bushfinger, I sure love mine. I'm getting a Recluse with a wooden handle next then I'll know more about how I want to approach the Hiking Buddy. I'd like one that matches the Bushfinger...but I may end up wanting one more like the one pictured above :)

MW - I like the firesteel. Love the looks of antler!

Thanks man me too. I made my bearing block out of antler and then this. I have been trying to think of other things I could make to take to the field. I could make some leather working tools but that wouldn't be all that useful in the field lol.
