New Busse Blade Testing Protocol

I've seen the same thing done using .50 BMG somewhere on the net. Eventually the sword broke, but it did take something like 4 or 5 shots. Really impressive. I nominate skunk to supply the sword. He's probably got 6 or 7 originals just lying around the house. Plus a whole case of new ones.

In Murray Carter's catalogue, he answers a question about this test. He said that SOG replicated the test with one of their knives. He also suggested that the bullet was not jacketed, and that if it had been, the results might have been different. I bet that the edge geometry has a lot to do with it. I wonder how well a chisel grind would compare to a full height sabre grind...

I recall some knife mag articles from the early 90's where Bob Terzoula (sp, sorry Bob) did similar bullet splitting with some of his knives.

For the record, though....that bullet is wayyyy softer than a blade....I would put 100$ on the fact that a butter knife could split most lead bullets with ease. I used to competitvely shoot, and we used to, as a joke, split bullets on target hangers....which were nothing but big binder clips....the .50BMG.....that might be a different story....

the flash intro on sogknives.com also has a bullet that is shot at one of their knives and splits into two peices

Ya, that doesnt really prove much. Now hitting the flat o the blade with a bullet... that is a test. And of course, a Busse already passed that one...
