I just got my first Busse yesterday and it was a hhfsh and Iam very happy with everything. I did the usual paper test and then hair test, and cut a water bottle in half. After that I split wood with it and cut some limbs off of trees. The knife has wonderful edge retention, but is started to lose its super sharpness. I was wandering if any of you guys use an edgepro to sharpen you hh? I want to keep a nice tight angle on the knife unlike in the past. Can any of you guys tell me what setting you use?(color)

Thanks
Bill

Congrats on scoring a great Busse knife! Now you are hooked. Hold on for the INFI addiction ride.

Congrats man. And welcome to the madness. ;)

I love using the Edge Pro but that is because I am much better with it that doing convex edges. Most will tell you, however, that a convex edge is stronger on a chopper. Have you tried stropping it on some leather, like a leather belt? Or lightly steeling it?

A helluva choice for your first blade. Congrats! :D:thumbup: I'm too new to using Edge Pro's to offer advice, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly to help ya there. I would second the suggestion of using a ceramic "steel" or leather strop if all that you need is a touchup as far as sharpening goes... No point removing more metal than ya have to. JMHO. :D
Oh yeah... Got pix? :D:D

Congrats Bill, an HHFSH was my second Busse and I wouldn't part with it. You will never regret your decision!

If you want to keep the original edge profile, then the answers already given are what you want.

Personally I think the factory edge is a little too thick, so I used the lansky set (cheap version of the edge pro) to thin mine out. Took about three evenings while sat bored in hotel on a business trip. It's the only Busse I have not convexed - I just thought I would have a change.

I used the most acute angle setting, 17 degrees per side, but with the holder far back so as to make it more 15 degrees. Took it to a mirror finsh and scary sharp.

If you want to keep the profile but have really blunted it, use the sharpie trick. Just mark the edge of the blade with the sharpie, affix to the edge pro and use a fine stone on the edge. See where the mark is taken off and adjust the angle until it hits the flat of the edge. Then sharpen away.

there's a good chance that a smooth steel will restore the screaming edge without removing any material. i always try that first.
