Hey folks, wanted to toss up few pics of my new Bushcrafting Pack hatchet. It's being made from 1060 spring steel and the RC is 55-59, it has a 3.5" cutting face, 5.5" total length, 7/8" width at eye, 12" handle, 25-28oz OAW, Convex edge, 100% made in the USA Bushcrafting Pack Hatchet. Can't let the Sweeds have all the fun.

Wow! She is definitely an Absolute Beauty! Very jealous of such a fantastic little hatchet. Looks as though it is likely to serve you very very well in your bushcrafting needs!

Thanks you for the compliment. I am C3 Knives. So far she is exceeding expectations. These are going to be made in very small supply. Took me about a year to get the project worked out, but I think it has been worth the effort. It's a collaberative effort with a local smith. I am cleaning the bits, adjusting the geometry, polishing, hanging and making the head cover. He is doing the rough work and HT on the heads. The pics actually are of the first two, if you look carefully. I got 4 to sell in the first box and they are gone.

Oh boy, Not going to say what I really think of your side by side. You don't need to market this way in my opinion.
That being said you have the makings of a very well ballanced hatchet there. I think it will perform well.

To me, the Eye looks like it needs to be longer, to really benefit from the size of the wings.
Other than that, this looks like a great little axe. The long poll looks like it would help keep the balance right, and it looks well done all around.
I agree with Squarepeg here, I bet a slightly upsized one, on a 24 inch handle would really fly.

Nice work man!

You won't offend me. I process enough wood for heat. Youtube finds people all over the world. It's amazing what goofy little vids do. I get more responses from the Youtube vids than any forum.

Here are a couple of stills of the test. The result would be the same if repeated. The geometry of the Mini is far more obtuse and does not penetrate the same.

HB size or a Boys axe size? I am working on it, just need to make a few more decisions and see how this one fairs.

Cody, I can be abit rough around the edges but you will get an honest opinion from me(you no what they say about opinions).
I think your side profile is great. I really like it.
I can see that you have a work in progress there, and you are on the right track. No need to use another manufacturer to measure your product against in public. We all know that the hatchet designs comeing out of Sweeden have room for improvement. Get it right and yours will be the one all the others are measured against. Set the standard.

Good luck.

I hear ya. The demostration is not to shed a bad light on Wetterling. The Swedish Hatchets are the world standard right now, so that is the best comparison to be made. If I grabbed a Collins hatchet from the Hardware store it would be far less comparable. If I chopped the log with no comparison it would be hard to judge performance. Generally speaking, to show a demonstration a comparison is almost always done. It's called a measuring stick. If I don't use another manufactorer, What do I use? Anyone in the Denver area who wants to get together and do a comparison, that would be great.

This "work in Progress" is done and selling. I will agree that it is the new standard! Thanks for your input.

Nice hatchet. I think you will probably sell everyone you make faster than you can make them. As far as a comparison, wouldnt the Wetterlings SAW13 be a more fair comparison? Same handle length and similar head weight. All things being equal, a shorter handle is going to lose everytime. Just my opinion

Yes sir it would. I just don't have one. The mini is 2oz lighter so it is very close in weight, and I had not done any adjustment to it's factory edge. I will do another test with the large hunter from Wett. That one will beat it in chopping but this little hatchet is designed to be a BushCrafter as well as a chopper. These are not intended to be a strict wood processing tool. This is a Dedicated BushCrafting Tool first. The edge shape allows for the hatchet to be used as an excellent hunter and skinner, The geometry is similar to many large knives, so cutting up veggies for a stew is no problem. It will notch so traps can be made, make feather sticks, shave up fatwood, strike a steel, Collect branch's for a shelter ect. A true BushCrafting tool and made specially for you. Like I said, these are being made in small numbers. The silly little vids only help.

If you watch the Chopping vid I don't say anything negative about the Wett at all. I made this vid the same day and planned to continue the comparison but the Wett wedged the card board so badly that it couldn't be used. So I didn't even mention it. Why? Because I was not trying to slam Wett, or Swedish Hatchets in any way. If I promote myself it's not intended to hurt anyone else. It's the nature of competition.

Whittling and drilling next...

Next box is in and we tried to listen to some of the input. Here is a pic of the newer one. I am going to offer a straight pole as an option for those who would like it. That's not the difference. This one is the same weight as a second gen Husqie hatchet I have in my hands.(It comes in at 26oz OAL.) It was made by wetterling and is unmodified from the factory.
