When was Camco in existence? Another question I have is the bolsters are uneven with the springs and liners on one side. Did Camillus just not put the effort to finishing their Camco line, or is this one unfinished?

nice score, camco came into existance late 40's, 1948 i believe and you can find newer camco on ebay but they are imports, albany felt must of really liked their company name on knives cause ive seen countless knives couple of patterns, almost bit on an albany felt big 2 blade cigar jack, but chickened out on it
nice knife ya got there

Thanks. I'll keep my eye on some more. I saw a badge from the company, a picture of a lady holding up her employee # that they would have pinned to their shirt.

The liners don't quite line up with the backsprings in the back of this knife. I chalked it up as being a cheaper version for ad knives. Is this common on these knives or do I just have an unfinished knife?

i believe camco was a more budget friendly line from camillus, i'm no authority on these things so hopefully somebody more knowledgeable will be along to shed some light on your knife. I wouldnt think quality would have been intentionally inferior, so maybe yours is a special case, dunno.
Is this camco a larger knife? and do the scales have a subtle stripe, they appear to in the picture, similar to my #23 Camillus Cigar jack. just wondering if this is the camco version of the cigar jack...

Looks loke they just didn't grind the end on one side to even things out.I'll try to get som pics up.Looks just like a 23 I saw on another thread

Albany Felt was one of Camillus' long term customers. They made felt for the paper industry.
The backs on early CAMCO knives are usually not finished so the springs and linings are not flush.
I recall the Albany Felt salesman, Lee Minicucci, coming to the Camillus factory to order knives. In later years they changed their name to Albany International and purchased the model #42/864 with their name etched on the handle.

I regret it now that I have done it, and I will probably seek out another in its original form, but I took it to a fine belt and buffed the handles. It looks like a very well made knife now, but as a traditionalist it's not original. Being as its going to be a user I figured I would finish it off, it only cost me 6 bucks.I find the steel to look like quality stuff, and with the finished off liners/bolsters it looks like a well made knife.

Camillus made this same pattern for several felt companies including ORR FELT and Porritts & Spencer.
The salesmen for the felt companies gave these knives to workers in the paper mills.
