Does the new bayonet seem excessively pricey for something that is less knife than the BK-7, which can be had for roughly 1/3 the price?

Fudo,
Yes it does seem pricey but remember you are comparing a bayonet to a knife. The bayonet not only has a sheath with a removable wire cutter but also a diamond sharpening rod attached. Since I do not collect bayonets I will pass on buying this fine knife. I have held it and I can tell you it is a first class piece of cuterly.
Good Collecting !

And I think they should rename it to the Camillus Anchor. It's heavy just like the M9.

i wouldn't want to carry that thing. Most people carry a multi-tool for cutting wire as well as a sharpening stone so why would anyone subject them selves to carrying this thing. It's one big and heavy POS and not to mention expensive!

You're much better off with the BK-7, BK-9 or my favorite, the BK-10.

BK-7 is 13 oz
Bk-9 is 18.25 oz
BK-10 is 11 oz
Original USMC Kabar is 11 oz

The new bayonet is a whoppin 2 lbs!

Who in their right mind would want to carry that thing all day?

Well, a bayonet needs to be beefy and strong as you're basically working with a knife with a 4 foot handle. Think of all the force you're putting on the blade.

If it is as heavy as an M-9 its definitely too heavy. I was int he AF active duty 8 yrs from 1988-96. We used the old M-7 bayonets, they worked well. We also had the F/U they worked fine also. The M-9 was too heavy, not very popular. Made a better anchor than a practical knife/bayonet. Aside from the fact that the wire cutter was not exactly well "executed" (useful, etc.).

A knife that weighs almost as much as a Colt .45 is a bayonet that is waay too heavy. :grumpy:

I've read quite a bit about bayonets lately and I'm a little surprised that Camillus made one. I kind of thought that the demand for bayonets would be going down. You're right about it's price. Too high.
