I go back country canoe camping in Algonquin park and last year I took my bk 9. For my next trip in the spring im going to take my bk10 and my new christmas toy. a Gransfors bruk small forest axe. i love my bk9 but im impressed with what a beautiful piece of craftsmanship this axe is. paired with a bk10 and my collapsible buck saw I think it will be a nice combination.

Dutch, may I ask what you are carrying for a collapsible bucksaw and if you're happy with it? I've been looking, but haven't made up my mind yet. That axe is gorgeous. I love them, but not for backpack carry. Thanks!

THat is my exact set up.Literally, I even have the same 710 sheath. I'm thinking about using a smaller blade though...because the axe can take care of all the large tasks.

I use the trailblazer collapsible buck saw. it sets up easy and makes quick work of wood. I would recommend it.

That's been on my list of things to get for awhile now.

I would definitely recommend it. my only complaint is the blade has these plastic endpieces that have a potential to break (although I am still using the original blade and haven't had any problems) so just have a spare blade as backup. the blades chew through wood with ease and they come in 2 lengths as well.

I think its going to be a great combo. I love the bk10 though and want a decent sized knife with me still. the 710 makes a great setup

sweet combo!
I'd carry a folder and/or multi-tool too, just 'cause it's nice to have something handy your belt/pocket that doesn't get in the way. But for big tools? Perfecto.

Nice set up. I use the fiskars x7 axe, a trailblazer sawprene folding saw and usually a couple knives. I switch between the bk 9, 4 & 2 as the main knives and usually take the bk16 (sometimes i switch this out with a mora or an esee 3... Sorry). I cut the top handle off the axe case and i can now fit it and the saw in the small back pack along with the hydration bag. The knives will usually ride my belt. I have the big blade on my left side for a cross draw and keep the smaller blade on my right side. Anyways you got a great set up there... I may have to look at upgrading my axe to something better but i find the fiskars take a wicked edge and if i ruin it or lose it i won't be too upset

That's also been on my list as well, actually been trying to figure out how I could make something similar using a readily available pin end replacement blade...but in the end I'll probably just buy one.

I assume you're carrying the 18" model, correct? The 24 seems like it'd be a bit long all broken down. But then again, canoe camping!

Nice combo!! Should handle anything and everything you need or want.

My wife ordered me a GB small forest axe for xmas as well. It just hasnt made it here yet LOL

ya I own the smaller one. haven't felt the need for anything bigger.

its a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, you won't be disappointed. we had a big ice storm here and by my moms house there was a lot of downed trees so I took a few swings and it bites pretty deep I was really impressed.

I was just searching for a replacement blade for my buck saw and clicked on a site that said trailblazer out of business...bummer

edit: just saw a video on how to use regular blades with it just need a couple of small nuts/bolts so I would still recommend the saw if you can find one
